Java Enumerations and JAXB

My question is:
If the xml request sends an wrong integer: 3, what will happen? will it create a State = null? Because it doesn't match any enum values (1 or 2).
from the method, fromValue(...), it would throw an IllegalArgumentException. But it didn't.
