Teaching Construction Management or Civil Engineering? Learn More About Oracle Primavera Project Management Software in Free Webcast

Denise Hobbs
Regional Director, North America

Offered free for classroom use by Oracle Academy, Primavera is a project management software suite that provides robust and easy-to-use on-premise applications, providing construction management and civil engineering students with practice prioritizing, planning, managing, and delivering successful projects, programs, and portfolios.

More than 100 educators registered to attend a free Oracle Academy webcast on March 27, 2019, to learn more about how to help students build confidence and career readiness with solid project management skills in Oracle Primavera.

The webcast, Primavera Practice in the Classroom, provided:

  • Information on Oracle Primavera software, and best practice techniques to teach students to use the software to meet expectations of future employers in construction and engineering.
  • A detailed overview of eight labs that give students the opportunity to create a realistic project schedule and then add to it as they deepen their understanding of the software. The labs help students practice:
    • Creating and saving a project schedule and customizing schedule looks and layouts
    • Activity coding to organize activities into Work Breakdown Structures, loading of resources and costs, a real-world analysis of resource over-allocation, and possible update scenarios
    • Methods of filtering activities, including creating a customized Six-Week Lookahead filter, and a final schedule analysis
  • A discussion of how to tie the labs to the lecture portion of a course, and methods of grading.
  • A Q & A session.

The webcast was presented by experienced Primavera teacher and presenter John Buttelwerth, who has taught Primavera for more than 35 years. In addition to classroom teaching, John has taught scheduling software to 2,000-plus project managers throughout the country. In less than two years, more than 15 colleges and universities have adopted his P6 Real World Scheduling book as a text.

Oracle Primavera is used globally by premier construction and civil engineering firms. This webinar provides best practices techniques for teachers hesitant to add hands-on Primavera practice to their curriculum and is an exciting first step in learning more and boosting confidence—as well as students’ future resumes.

If you didn’t have a chance to attend the webcast, you still can learn how to teach your students with hands-on experience in Oracle Primavera to meet expectations of future employers.
