What exactly is data? What is information? In this Oracle Academy Tech Chat podcast episode, host Tyra Crockett, Senior Manager Oracle Academy North America, and Scott Stroz, MySQL developer advocate, discuss the correlation between data and information and how information is the result of gathering and processing data.

To begin, Scott defines data versus information and how they work together. Scott and Tyra talk about how consuming information informs decision making, and how without correct data, our information may be skewed. They talk about how many of today’s careers ― whether in the tech industry or not ―are impacted by information gathering and analyzing. 

Scott also provides a definition of a database. He gives examples of how he uses databases in everyday life and touches on data security and how individuals can secure their data. Finally, Scott gives advice to faculty and students on why being a lifelong learner is important.
