On March 27, 2024, MySQL Developer Advocate and Oracle Academy ambassador Scott Stroz delivered a guest lecture in an open session to university students in Maryland. The event aimed to connect students to an Oracle expert to share Oracle technology knowledge and career insights. Approximately 40 students attended the presentation.

The lecture covered a variety of topics including a technical introduction to NoSQL and shared insights specific to “A Day in the Life” in career roles in database administration and developer.

A lively Q&A session followed the presentation, where Scott encouraged all students to continue learning, even after they graduate, as lifelong learners. Stroz stated, “When you are wearing your cap and gown and holding that piece of parchment, don’t think it is the end of your learning, because when it comes to technology, it’s just the beginning.”

One faculty member in attendance said of Scott’s session, “His session is among the top industry speaker sessions we've experienced in recent years. Scott has a knack for delivering exactly what students are eager to learn and hear. Observing students jotting down notes and vying for his attention was truly inspiring. We are grateful to Scott for taking the time to engage with our students and offering them an unparalleled learning experience.”

“It was a pleasure speaking with such a bright group of students. They were very attentive, enthusiastic, and asked incredibly insightful questions. After meeting this group of students, I know that our future is in great hands,” said Scott.

Oracle Academy is pleased to work with the Oracle MySQL Community team to help inspire students as they prepare to become technology innovators and leaders of the future.

Additionally, Oracle Academy, in conjunction with the Oracle MySQL Community team, launched two new Education Bytes focused on MySQL.
