Oracle Academy Supports Students in Pakistan at University in Karachi

Damian Haas
Regional Director - JAPAC

Oracle Academy recently facilitated a student-focused event at FAST (Foundation for Advanced Science & Technology) National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES), Karachi campus, in Pakistan. Students and faculty from the computer science and management sciences departments attended the event. NUCES is a premiere university of Pakistan, renowned for its quality and impact of its students on local industries, including software development.

Experts from Oracle Pakistan presented to the students, including Shariq Rehman, Managing Director of Oracle Pakistan, who is an alumnus of FAST-NUCES. Shariq commenced his session by discussing the rapid pace at which the world is evolving and explaining how Oracle is successfully adapting to all of these innovations. He discussed some important emerging technologies, namely: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT), and Blockchain. He also highlighted how Oracle supports learning initiatives by providing free access to educational materials and Oracle technologies through the Oracle Academy program. The later part of the session was devoted to career counseling. Shariq imparted useful career advice, sharing his experiences and observations from the time he was a student to his current career.

The event received an overwhelming positive response from the students. “Mr. Rehman’s session was very informational and interesting for the students. They were especially interested in the introduction of how Oracle platforms support cutting-edge technologies, and the case studies, and they were excited by the fact that some of those platforms were accessible to them through Oracle Academy membership,” said Dr. M. Rafi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science. “Mr. Rehman’s status as an alumnus of FAST allowed him to create a good rapport with the students. His career counseling advice and tips on how they can prepare themselves were very popular. We are hopeful such sessions will continue in a regular manner and allow students and faculty alike to keep up with the cutting-edge tools made available by Oracle.”
