Oracle Academy Supports High School and University Students in Romania

Jane Richardson
Senior Director, EMEA

Over two days, Oracle Academy in Romania collaborated with more than 25 Oracle colleagues volunteering their time as Oracle Volunteers to run Knowledge Builder events. At these events, these Oracle experts had the opportunity to display their passion for computing and information technology to 126 high school and university students.

At the offices of Oracle Romania, they highlighted for the students what the world of IT work is like in a multinational company. Students visited nine different Oracle departments, where they were received by our colleagues who showed them the importance of what they are doing every day, and the links between departments, and also discussed how they started in their careers and gained experience.

Sorin Mindrutescu, (pictured) Oracle Romania Country Leader, explained to the high school students the importance of having self-confidence and striving to become better each day. He noted it was important to focus and prepare themselves for a career doing what they love to do every day.

The agenda covered different presentations about Oracle in general and in Romania, and how Oracle Academy supports students in accessing and understanding current technologies, and how they can potentially become certified in database and Java before they leave school to prepare them for further education and careers. The Oracle recruitment department showed them how to prepare an effective CV and advised them on how to practice for interviews so they can be confident in their future in the IT domain.

All of the students were very impressed by the multitude of helpful information they received. Because they received a more full image of what a career in the IT sector could mean for them, many became more interested in learning about computer science and information technology in their courses.

The schools that participated included many Oracle Academy Institutional members, including:

Univ.Româno-Americană / Facultatea de Informatică Managerială

Academia de Studii Economice Bucuresti/CSIE

Universitatea din Bucuresti/Facultatea de Matematica si Informatica

Universitatea Tehnica de Constructii Bucuresti
