Oracle Academy Supports FIRST Tech Challenge in Romania

Jane Richardson
Senior Director, EMEA

To encourage student innovation in robotics, for the third year Oracle Academy has been pleased to be one of the sponsors of the FIRST Tech Challenge, Romania, organized by Natie Prin Educatie Association.

The final championship round of the challenge was held in Bucharest on March 22-24, 2019, at Sala Polivalenta. The event brought together hundreds of students from different high schools across Romania. This was an open doors event that welcomed an estimated 9,000-plus students during those three days.

The students worked in teams of 10-15 members, and during a five-month timespan, built a robot using a robotics kit, a 3D printer, and a set of tools provided by the Natie Prin Educatie Association, an NGO. The teams competed in demos, qualifying regionals, and finally in the National Robotics Championship (Bucharest) and World Robotics Championship (USA).

The Romanian teams that qualified to attend the World Robotics Championship in the USA are:

  • Xeo, Colegiul National – Horea, Closca si Crisan, Alba-Iulia
  • WhattsUp, Colegiul National – Dinicu Golescu, Campulung-Muscel
  • Quantum Robotics, Liceul Teoretic International de Informatica – Bucuresti
  • RobotX_HD, Colegiul National de Informatică – Traian Lalescu, Hunedoara

Natie Prin Educatie Association has been an Oracle Academy partner since December 2018, and teaches Oracle Academy curriculum to its student members.

FIRST Tech Challenge Romania, organized by the Natie Prin Educatie Association, is an important robotics and STEM education program for high school students in Romania. Currently, the program works with 1,500 students from 49 cities in the country, plus 300 teacher-mentors and 200 volunteers.

We at Oracle Academy are pleased to continue our work encouraging students to innovate and become the STEM and computer science leaders of the future.
