To help support computer science educators and provide them with access to inspiring, hands-on resources to teach computer science, Oracle Academy was pleased to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2019 Computer Science Teachers Association Annual Conference. The conference took place in Phoenix, July 8-10.
As we have for the past several years, Oracle Academy provided 29 teacher scholarships to first-time CSTA conference attendees so they had the opportunity to attend this exciting premier conference for computer science teachers. Scholarship winners were:
Anthony Am, Loren Ayresman, Krista Baker, John Burdick, Kirstina Frazier, Rebecca Gutosky, Evonne Hackett, Mary Catherine Hastie, Brandy Hicks (Justice), Thomas Klett, Ginger LaCross, Kevin Micks, Jenny Miles, Jessica Rodriguez, Jayashree Ravi, Steven Stoffregen, Batavia Sumlin, Regina Ward, Amy White
“The Oracle Academy scholarship provided me the opportunity to attend the CSTA conference, which blew my mind!” says Loren Ayresman. “As a new computer science teacher, I now see that the future is wide open for my students!”
At the conference, Oracle Academy conducted a workshop led by Lisa Palombo, Oracle Academy Senior Curriculum Developer, on Oracle Academy Education Bytes―short, flexible learning modules that teach new concepts and enhance existing knowledge and skills, problem solving, creativity, and learning retention. The workshop gave attendees the chance to explore the wide range of Education Bytes, which can be used alone or to enhance Oracle Academy curriculum, and provide self-directed, diverse learning experiences at all skill levels in database, Java, data science and much more.
The Oracle Academy booth in the exhibit hall offered the opportunity to meet and speak with the Oracle Academy team experts, plus representatives from the Carnegie Mellon Alice team. The Oracle Academy team also sponsored a fun photo booth so teachers could get together and capture their time at the conference.
We look forward to seeing you next year at CSTA 2020!
