We are facing unprecedented times, and educators across the globe are needing to adapt rapidly to new teaching challenges. Virtual learning has become the new norm and is necessary for the well-being of educators and students.

Distance learning options and robust online learning resources play a critical role in educational institutions providing ongoing support for both educators and students. Oracle Academy continues to support its member institutions and educators through our 21st century curriculum and learning materials and tools, all available using only a browser.

Institutional membership in Oracle Academy is free, and offers institutions and educators a wealth of benefits, including robust curriculum developed by educators and mapped to standards, software, and free learning materials.

Learning assets include the following.

Workshops

Oracle Academy hands-on workshops make computing fun and engaging, and offer a sample of Java- and database-centered computing to students. They include:

Java workshops

Java workshops introduce beginning learners to object-oriented programming using drag and drop interfaces to create 3D animations and 2D games and interact with the Finch Robot.

Getting Started with Java Using Alice is designed for students with little or no programming experience and teaches basic Java programming concepts through developing 3-D animations in Alice 3.1.  8 Hours

Creating Java Programs with Greenfoot engages students who understand basic programming concepts to create 2-D games using Java.  16 Hours

Programming the Finch Robot in Greenfoot encourages students who have completed Creating Java Programs with Greenfoot to program an interface that makes the Finch Robot interactive using its light, proximity, and temperature sensors using Java in Greenfoot.  8 Hours

Programming the Finch Robot in Java encourages students who have completed the Creating Java Programs with Greenfoot and Programming the Finch Robot in Greenfoot to program an interface that makes the Finch Robot interactive using its light, proximity, and temperature sensors using Java.  8 Hours

Database workshop

Solve It with SQL introduces databases to beginners, challenging students to play the role of a superhero and solve a series of crimes using a cloud-based database development environment.  8 Hours

Curriculum

To engage students in computer science, educators need rigorous, robust academic curriculum that sparks curiosity while teaching critical knowledge and skills. Educators can use our modular curriculum and learning resources to help learners expand knowledge, develop skills, and innovate.

Our free curriculum and learning resources focus on database and Java, and are available in multiple languages, with exams, quizzes, and answer keys to show evidence of learning, plus How To Guides. All courses are available to Institutional members through the Oracle Academy learning management system platform.

Courses include:

Java Fundamentals | Java Foundations | Java Programming | Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning in Java | Database Foundations | Database Design and Programming with SQL | Programming with PL/SQL | APEX – Application Development Foundations

Additionally, the Oracle Academy Cloud Program provides access to Oracle Cloud Free Tier to Oracle Academy Institutional members and their students. Member educators and their students can use the cloud for classroom learning, with access to always-free Oracle Autonomous Database, Compute Virtual Machines (VM), object storage, data egress, and other essential building blocks needed to create applications on top of Oracle Autonomous Databases.

Plus, numerous Oracle Academy Education Bytes offer diverse learning experiences that reinforce key concepts and include hands-on labs, projects and challenges, and videos and presentations.

Freely Accessible Resources

For students, whether or not their institution is a member of Oracle Academy, a free online resource library is available, offering a variety of forums, sites, and learning materials.

Plus, we collaborate with the Oracle Dev Gym, which offers fun individual workouts, quizzes and classes focused on Java and database that help students keep knowledge fresh.

The mission of Oracle Academy is to advance computing education globally to increase knowledge, innovation, skills development, and diversity in technology fields. As part of Oracle corporate social responsibility efforts, we support communities around the world by making available free education resources to help educators make students college and career ready and to become digital innovators and leaders.
