As a member of Oracle Academy’s philanthropic program, the University of the South Pacific (USP), based in Fiji, recently joined a virtual workshop on how to use the Oracle Academy Cloud Program to enhance their educator and student experience in classrooms across the Pacific.
USP is the first Oracle Academy Institutional member in Fiji, and offers programs through distance and flexible learning in a variety of modes and technologies throughout its 14 campuses across the Pacific Islands. It offers a wide range of academic programs and courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Oracle Academy is working with the university to provide the foundational computer science courses that impart relevant computing knowledge, industry skills, and confidence students need to take the next step into the workplace.
Michelle Gao, Oracle Academy manager for Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania, and Jian Li, Oracle Academy principal instructor, provided educators from the School of Computing, Information, and Mathematical Sciences with an online demonstration on how to sign up and register themselves and their students to use the cloud for classroom learning. The Oracle Academy Cloud Program provides access to Oracle Autonomous Database, Compute Virtual Machines (VM), object storage, data egress, and other essential building blocks and developer tools needed to create applications on top of Oracle Autonomous Databases. Gao and Li also provided the faculty with expert guidance on how to best use the teaching resources available to them from Oracle Academy.
Dr. Vani Vasudevan, a Lecturer and Program Leader at the School of Computing, Information, and Mathematical Sciences, was particularly interested in the new Oracle Academy Cloud Program. “This is a great opportunity to increase our knowledge base with practical exposure to various services offered by the Oracle Academy Cloud Program. We are indeed proud to be a pioneer in exploring and using this program. We appreciate Oracle Academy for lending their constant support to academia, and in particular, the USP,” she said.
The Oracle Academy Cloud Program provides Institutional members with access to the new Oracle Cloud Free Tier. The program provides Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as ‘Always Free’ services for educators and students to learn, build, and explore in the cloud free of charge and tailored to the unique requirements of educational institutions and educators. Educators receive training to teach students about Oracle Autonomous Database, which delivers unprecedented availability, performance, and security to drive innovation.
Oracle Academy has been growing its reach across the diverse and vibrant APAC region for over a decade, and now includes more than 5,000 regional education institutions in its Asia Pacific membership as it builds the best computing education courses for students.
