To provide students throughout the country with free world-class industry technologies and expertly developed learning resources, on February 1, 2019, the Ministry for Education and Employment in Malta, the University of Malta, and the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology (MCAST) have signed a membership agreement with Oracle Academy.
During his address, the Malta Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, stated that cooperating with Oracle Academy marks the government’s commitment to improve the quality of the country’s education system, taking it to the next level by providing students with the necessary computing skills to help them succeed across all fields and industries.
Through this agreement, both Malta educators and students will have access to computing education resources to enrich their knowledge and advance innovation, diversity and skills development in technology arenas. More than 150 schools in the country and the 2 higher education institutions will benefit.
In the last several years, Malta has been at the forefront among countries in Europe that have invested heavily in quality technology education and tools, including a tablet for each student, and 3D printers. Minister Bartolo noted that this agreement is a continuation towards a more holistic educational experience that prepares students for future employment.
“Computer science skills are critical for the growth of the Maltese economy,” said Michael Balzan, Country Leader, Oracle Malta. "Collaborating through Oracle Academy with both the Ministry of Education and higher education institutions in Malta helps us support students and teachers in computer science to advance their IT skills and create new educational and career pathways.”
Today’s announcement continues Oracle’s 25-year legacy in education. At Oracle Academy, we believe everyone should have the skills and opportunities to achieve their dreams. We’re thrilled to team with Maltese institutions in a shared mission to advance computing education throughout Malta, and prepare students in the era of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, the Internet of Things, and beyond.
Oracle Academy offers students and educational institutions a free and complete portfolio of software, curriculum, hosted technology, faculty trainings, support, and certification resources, while enabling students to acquire 21st century skills such as critical thinking, analysis, curiosity, communication and collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
