To help educators better teach computer science and position students for the future, Oracle Academy held a Faculty Day event in Makassar City, Indonesia, on July 18, 2019. The event was attended by 100 computer science educators, including deans and heads of computer science departments from 50 institutions in South Sulawesi Province. Many current and new Oracle Academy members came to the event to hear about the newest Oracle Academy offerings and the latest technological developments in the industry.

Oracle Academy assists these institutions and faculty by providing computing education curriculum to support industry-relevant skills for their students prior to entering the workplace. These frontline educators play a key role in inspiring the next generation to become career ready and the tech leaders of the future within their country.

The keynote speaker of this event was Mohamad Rizal Arryadi, a principal consultant of Oracle ASEAN SCM, APAC-APPS. He spoke about the fourth industry revolution that “Industry 4.0” is enabling ― and how the education sector must be able to adapt with a curriculum framework that teacher students career-relevant skills to meet future industry needs. Oracle Academy Country Manager for Indonesia and Malaysia, Nurul Huda, who facilitated the event, was in attendance to help faculty understand how the Oracle Academy program can support them and their students to keep up with technology advances.

“The curriculum framework presented at the Oracle Academy Faculty Day in Makassar city has helped us to understand comprehensive computer science curriculum that is in line with current and future industrial needs. We as computer science educators are certainly very grateful and helped by this event. Hopefully, we can implement the Oracle Academy curriculum to help our students prepare for their successful futures,” said Muh. Sakir, Technology Community Activist, Makassar, and Informatics Engineering Lecturer at Fajar Makassar University.

“Oracle Academy provides opportunities, especially for our students, to learn according to the latest technological trends that I believe will become their capital in the future after graduating from school,” said Achlis Djafar, Head of Software Engineering Study Program of SMK/Secondary Vocational School Kartika XX-1, Makassar.

Oracle Academy has been growing its reach across this diverse and vibrant region for over a decade, and now includes more than 5,000 regional education institutions in its membership. These institutions, and their educators, gain access to industry-leading software and tools, as well as proven academic curriculum and resources at no cost, to help build the best computing education courses for their students.
