The new Oracle Academy Cloud Program provides Oracle Academy Institutional members with always-free access to Oracle Cloud Free Tier, Oracle Autonomous Database, Compute Virtual Machines (VM), object storage, data egress, and other essential building blocks and developer tools needed to create applications so educators and students can learn, build, and explore in the cloud.
Professor Simona Benigno, computer science teacher at ITIS Enrico Fermi High School, Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca, Rome, Italy, details how she is using the cloud program in her virtual classroom. Professor Benigno noted that, “My motto has always been ‘lifelong learning.’ Smart working, video lessons, study, updating, and continuous professional learning are the best weapons to combat this period of uncertainty as we work from home, and allow us to move forward with confidence,” she notes.
“As a ‘practitioner’ teacher and active member of Oracle Academy, I carefully follow the Oracle Academy training and news. For some months now, we teachers have been able to request accounts for the Oracle Academy Cloud Platform,” she says. “I have undertaken self-training, and I can say that the platform is technically very interesting for me and my students. Having started immediately by testing the different features, I am now sure that the platform will help teachers to face the world of cloud with their students.”
Students the age of legal majority and older also have access to Oracle cloud through the program. Educators easily can provision student accounts, and classes are up and running in a cloud environment without the need to download, install or maintain software or databases. Access to Oracle Academy database curriculum also is available in multiple languages.
Through the program, teachers and students enjoy always free access to developer tools including Oracle Application Express (APEX) for low code Web application development, SQL Developer Web for working with Oracle Autonomous Databases, SQL Notebooks for Machine Learning, Oracle REST Data Services for web interfaces, and Oracle Instant Client for the most popular programming languages. For teaching and learning, they can learn new technologies including Autonomous Database, Compute VM, Linux, AI/ML, and digital assistants, and develop in SQL, NoSQL, APEX, Java, Node.js, Python, PHP, and Ruby.
