Cloud program provides students with access to courses in Philippines

Mapúa University is one of the top engineering and IT schools in Manila, Philippines. With the recent move to virtual learning, its School of Information Technology has started using the Oracle Academy Cloud Program (OACP) to teach Data Warehouse, Data Mining, and Data Management courses for students.

The university uses the "Always Free” services provided by the Oracle Academy Cloud Program to create data warehouses for setting up laboratory environments. More than 100 students benefit from the program in the current term. Students have the option to create, manage, and learn data warehouses online. They then can explore, review, and practice after school with their own cloud accounts.

“When we heard that the Oracle Academy Cloud Program was going live soon, we were very excited, because we had no way of creating data warehouses before. Also, with the other features of the OACP, we also can do things like creating chatbots and more. Most students enjoy learning through OACP, with some of them even posting about it on social media,” said Mapúa professor Julio Jerison E. Macrohon.

Currently, Mapúa University has three undergraduate programs using the Oracle Academy Cloud Program, and the university plans to employ it in its Master’s degree programs soon, particularly in the Master in Business Analytics degree program.

Besides the cloud, Mapúa also uses the Oracle Academy Member Hub in its classes such as Event-Driven Programming (Java Fundamentals), Cloud Computing Elective (NetSuite), Application Development 2 (PL/SQL), and Application Development and Emerging Technologies (AI/Machine Learning).

“During this pandemic, the Oracle Academy Member Hub and the Oracle Academy Cloud Program really helped us in giving quality education to students,” said Prof. Macrohon.
