The WebLogic 12c Book is Finally Here

WebLogic 12c Distinctive Recipes for software architects, administrators and developers -- who know quite a bit about WebLogic, want to know more, but don’t want the typical ‘recipe book’ full of screenshots. This new book is a collection of best practice in administrating WebLogic, large-scale deployments,  performance-tuning biggest mistakes and tools, the JVM, using JMX with your own applications, stuck threads, JDBC myths, effectively detecting memory leaks, Java EE examples (deployments and NetBeans projects), Oracle Fusion Middleware (Service Bus, SOA Suite etc.) and WebLogic in the Cloud without the hype. The book provides insights you won’t find in the manual, like recommendations, discussions, best practices, deployable projects, webcast videos and directions on when to use a feature – and when not to. With all this and more, this book is the perfect complement to official courses and manuals. Check it out on Amazon.com.

Deploying WebLogic SCA Applications to WebLogic Server 12c

Edwin Biemond uses WebLogic Server 12c and OEPE 12c to create and deploy a sample SCA component on the new product releases.

With the help of the Oracle Enterprise for Eclipse 12.1.1 ( OEPE ) we can build WebLogic SCA application and deploy it on WebLogic 12c. This allows you to write Java applications using POJOs and, through different protocols, expose components as SCA services and access other components via references.

Running RichFaces 4.1.0.Final on WebLogic Server 12c

Markus Eisele shows RichFaces 4.1.0 running on WebLogic Server 12c, using a snippet taken from the RichFaces showcase as the example. Markus comments on the change we've made in the 12c release in how we supply and use the JavaServer Faces API and default implementation.

Unlike with earlier version of WLS (compare my older post) JSF 2.x and JSTL 1.2 have been incorporated directly into the server's classpath. Applications deployed to WebLogic Server can seamlessly make use of JSF 2.x and JSTL 1.2 without requiring developers to deploy and reference separate shared libraries.

EclipseLink MOXy is the JAXB Provider in WebLogic Server 12c

Blaise Doughan, Team lead for the TopLink / EclipseLink JAXB & SDO implementations here at Oracle discuss the EclipseLink MOXy JAXB implementation that is now the default JAXB provider in WebLogic Server 12. He shows an example of using MOXy to create a JAX-WS Web Service.

Since MOXy is the default JAXB provider we can leverage all of its mapping extensions. In this example we will use @XmlPath to do XPath based mapping.

WebLogic Server with TopLink Grid: Overview of using JPA with Coherence as L2 Cache

Jeff West from the Product Management team has produced a very enlightening series of screen cams where he discusses the outstanding TopLink Grid feature, it's design, how it works and how it can used with WebLogic Server. Want to scale out your JPA applications, check this screen cam set out!

Scaling up from GlassFish to WebLogic Server

Markus Eisele has yet another blog posting, this time looking at the new feature that enables the easier deployment of GlassFish web applications to WebLogic Server (10.3.6.0 and 12.1.1.0) by reading and reusing configuration settings from the the glassfish-web.xml deployment descriptor.

New Book: WebLogic Administration Essentials

It's always great to see experts willing to share their (usually!) hard won knowledge with the community. Michel Schildmeijer has authored a new book for Packt Publishing, "Oracle Weblogic Server 11gR1 PS2: Administration Essentials". If you're looking to further, or renew your knowledge on using WebLogic Server, would be worth adding to your list of books to review.

Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 PS2: Administration Essentials is a focused step-by-step tutorial that provides an overview of the important administrative tasks performed by WebLogic Server administrators.

WebLogic Server 12c - Identifying Versions of Modules, Libraries, Frameworks

Yours truly offers up a quick blog showing the versions and locations of a small selection of the various modules, libraries and frameworks included in WebLogic Server 12c.

One approach to doing this is to use the wls-cat utility to search for a known class from the framework, module or open-source framework you are interested in looking at, and observing where the class is loaded from and the corresponding library version.
