OpenSolaris JeOS Prototype (Part3: Audience)

This entry is part of OpenSolaris JeOS (Just Enough Operating System) Prototype workshop.

Target audience of this JeOS Prototype

We try to build this concrete LightWeight Server Oriented OpenSolaris 2008.11 JeOS Prototype with main focus on Out-Of-Box experience and design it as just reduced command-line based installation. Current OpenSolaris 2008.11 JeOS Prototype represent primary a Virtual Appliances building blog, targeting various Virtual Appliances builders, especially ones created by and for SW developers, mainly for developers who using a layered layout of Virtual Appliances , where multiple products leveradge each others and on top of then is installed developer or user product or code, for example "Glassfish+WebSynergy" or "SAMP+Drupal" execution environments, see also high level summary of OpenSolaris JeOS Prototype Motivations

This prototype follow up main current OpenSolaris strategy and put maximum stress on Easy of Use , so wide audience of developers can try to build close to real solution based on OpenSolaris 2008.11 JeOS Prototype, this enables them to create Prototype or PoC solutions with low investments and finish it in short time at last one full Virtual Appliance development cycle to capture needed range of Hands-on experience and identify existing implementation and knowledge gaps.

Because just released OpenSolaris version 2008.11 don't support command line based installations yet, JeOS construction process, as focus on various levels of OS minimalizations efforts, was not primary target on this JeOS prototype, however we was trying to map current OpenSolaris 2008.11 minimalization capabilities, limitations and suggestions for improvement. There was already impleneted important changes in first developents release of upcoming OpenSolaris 2009.06, so there will be probably possibility to build more minimalized (or optimized) OpenSolaris JeOS for next release and leveraged all accumulated so far experience.
