UPK Customer Success Story: Panduit Corporation
By Karen Rihs on Mar 15, 2011
Did you know that Oracle's User Productivity Kit (UPK) works great with both Oracle and non-Oracle applications? During our recent UPK Customer Roundtable, Leveraging UPK for Oracle and Non-Oracle Applications to Achieve Your Goals in 2011, Jim Boss, Training Project Manager for Panduit Corporation, shared how they utilized UPK to support successful implementations of Oracle Time and Labor as well as Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
At the beginning of these projects, Jim saw UPK's potential to help him build better, more complete content while reducing costs compared to Panduit's past classical ILT approach. He easily built a business case in support of UPK, showing that for these two implementations alone, Panduit would reduce travel expenses by 90% compared to what they had budgeted for ILT. The ROI Panduit realized more than paid for their initial licenses and first year of maintenance.
UPK's ease of use helped Jim, Panduit's only UPK Developer at the time, create 25 courses in just three months, including localized content in Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. UPK enabled him to achieve huge time savings per finished hour of web-based training: only 2-10 hours compared to 150-300 hours (standard metrics for classic web-based solutions). In addition, by leveraging SME expertise rather than consultants to assist with content creation, UPK enabled Panduit to reduce development costs by 80% and gave them greater flexibility in scheduling resources.
In order to track course completion and certification, Panduit deploys their role-based UPK content via their LMS. In addition to training, end users are further supported with UPK's in-application performance support in both the Oracle Time and Labor and Microsoft Dynamics CRM applications, providing users with the information they need to do their jobs when and where they need it.
Panduit hosts UPK on SharePoint and finds this works as well as hosting UPK on a server. This has greatly streamlined the process of making content available to end users. No need to bother already over-burdened IT resources to create a web server or upload content.
To maximize the value of UPK, Panduit is expanding its use across the software life cycle and across its employee base. Panduit is utilizing UPK's test script output not only for QA testing but also quarterly regression testing. They're creating refresher and new-hire training for previously implemented modules. And they're beginning to use UPK for additional applications including Oracle Demantra and a web-based performance management application, Success Factors. Jim has found that UPK works seamlessly with these applications and the object recognition is excellent. They're even using UPK to record UPK Developer training by running UPK on a remote machine, further reinforcing adoption on the Developer side.
There's much more to Panduit's story. Please have a listen to learn more about the best practices, tips, savings, and benefits Jim described. Jim - thank you very much for your insights and sharing Panduit's UPK success with us!
