How Oracle University Training on Demand integrates into the red stack Part 1-1: Connect with Peoplesoft ELM 9.2
By volkere-Oracle on Apr 08, 2014
In this best practice series I will describe how you can enrich your delegates access to Training on Demand videos by developing a scenario which enables your learners to access the ToD videos from within an Oracle Learning Management Systems. As you know Oracle currently offers 3 flavors for a professional learning infrastructure:
1. Peoplesoft ELM 9.2
2. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne HCM
3. Oracle Taleo Learn Cloud Solution
Starting with Peoplesoft ELM (PSFTELM) I will describe how to integrate Training on Demand in PeopleSoft ELM catalog structure so that PeopleSoft ELM named user lerners can benefit from OU content using their familiar learning environment.
The test bed is built on virtual templates provided by Oracle Support. As VMs have in general a huge demand for hardware resoruces the given scenarios have been set up on the following specs:
- Intel Quad Core i7 2.3 MHz Processor
- 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
but it will also run on any other x64 based infrastructure. Please refer to support.oracle.com for references.
First prepare your environment for a PSFTEML demo instance download from PeopleSoft Demo Images Home Page (Doc ID 1552548.1)Please look for the ELM section to make sure not to download any other instances like CRM or Financials ;-)
The PeopleSoft ELM 9.2.004 Software Manifest describes the software layer which comes with the zip files:
After accepting the T&Cs download all 7 zip files. No 1. just stores the unzip and concat scripts - but its needed.
Checksums are important so please test either MDA or CHKSUM (sh-3.2#shasum -a 1 85310.ova) after you have downloaded all files.
Import the appliance 85310.ova into VirtualBox leaving it up to you wether you want to work with a bridged network or host-only. I have made good experiences with the open NIC as I wanted to access the ELM client from a remote workstation.
It schould look like this:
When starting the PSFTELM VM you will be asked to select a root, DB and PSFT user password. You also will be asked for a full domain name so the your DHCP server can assign the IP addresses correctly.
After the VM server is up and running connect to the PSFT ELM DEMO instance with:
PeopleSoft Login Page will appear and you can Login using PS/PS after you set local language to English.
Now the test bed is prepared to take over the content from the external source provided by Oracle University Training on Demand. To make this a dynamic handover we will look into how PeopleSoft ELM can handle this. In the following post I will describe how PeopleSoft ELM handles dynamic URL integration as a web based component.
