Kiosk Backdrops

Ever wonder why there is no backdrop (i.e. wallpaper) under Controlled Access Mode (aka Kiosk/CAM) with Solaris 9 or later? No, it's not a bandwidth conservation effort - although it works out that way. For those who used CAM under Solaris 8, you'll recall we used to have a Solaris backdrop by default.

Starting with Solaris 9 the old SunLogo.pm was renamed SolarisLogo.pm, but we failed to update CAM for this change. With Solaris 10 it's called SolarisLogo.old. So if you want that old backdrop back (embossed "old" Solaris logo in Sun Blue) just:

cd /usr/dt/share/backdrops
ln -s SolarisLogo.pm SunLogo.pm

or for S10:

cd /usr/dt/share/backdrops
ln -s SolarisLogo.old SunLogo.pm

Or symlink whatever pixmap you want to SunLogo.pm. Although it is much better not to have backdrops at all, which is why I've never opened a bug against this issue.
