Citrix releases updated Solaris x86 ICA client

I have three things to say:

1) Finally

2) Thank you Citrix! (and our mutual customers thank you as well!)

3) Game Freaking On!

Get the download here:

http://www.citrix.com/English/SS/downloads/details.asp?dID=2755&downloadID=3303&pID=186

A couple of notes:

Smart card authentication does not work with SRSS 4 U2 and PCSC-Lite 1.0.  Sun is working on that.  Seems to work just fine with SRSS 3.1 and SRCOM 2.0

Some X Windowing errors when used with TSOL. (Sun investigating that as well)

Comments:

This is awesome news... We can finally get sound on our U20's now!

I'd like to think I had a hand in this, as I was harrassing the pants of Citrix to get this update. And Citrix continually said 'we have no customers asking for this' whenever I asked, which I always thought was a little strange consider the question I just asked.

It's too bad they stopped short at only 8.5, but it's better than nothing. This saves me the 225MB of heap I was burning with every instance of the java client. 10x capacity bump. W00T!

Out of several requests to Citrix for an updated Solaris x86 client I got one reply saying there was no demand for it.

I was really pleased to see they finally came around, until it repeatedly core dumped.

sigh.....

This is great news for us. We have a customer that is facing huge problems because ICA Client for Suse Linux doesn't work very well, too many latency and key mapping problems regarding the keyboard.

Hope this x86 Client solves our major problems!?

The link seems to have broken - is there another one for an updated client?

the new DL URL for UNIX clients is

Re my core dumping above (on S10 x86), the following post explains why:
http://support.citrix.com/forums/thread.jspa?forumID=16&threadID=97491&tstart=0

However I found a neater solution was to use a binary editor like bvi to edit wfcmgr and wfica and swap libXm.so.4 for libXm.so.3

I had this same problem (i.e. the core dumping) so I just wrote a wrapper for the ICA Client and made it set the Locale to C, and then it fired up the wfcmgr or the wfica and this worked like a charm.

The smartcard part I haven't tested.

Thanks for the pointers. I installed on OpenSolaris 2008.05, and with a little tweaking (additional packages pkg:/SUNWscp@0.5.11; SUNWmfrun,SUNWdtbas, and SUWNtltk from the latest SXCE iso; and a compiled version of pcsc-lite) everything including smartcards works fine.

The actual client for Solaris 10 x64 (Version 8.50.1171122) does not work at least on Solaris 10u6.

As already written in previous comments, the problem is using the wrong version of libXm

Add the following 2 Lines to "wfica.sh"

LD_PRELOAD="/usr/dt/lib/libXm.so.3"
export LD_PRELOAD

and it works.
AND: Nothing to hack in the system!
