Stone Shen won a Java Jacket in today's Tech Days talent contest with a Kickboxing/Body Combat demonstration, which, aside from programming, is his main passion.
Stone is Web Development Team Project Manager for Business Development for startup company youku.com, a C2C video sharing website like YouTube.
"It was founded in late 2005, and we're still trying to find a business model to generate revenue. We're still in the early stages, but our goal is to find a profitable business model by the end of this year," he said, confidently.
"We're trying a lot of new technologies in our websites and we're quite innovative and open minded. We already use Ajax, and I've been talking with Manyi Lu over at the Java DB booth about evaluating it for our portal."
Stone has been a Java developer for about six years. His first job was at sohu.com, China's answer to Yahoo! "We used Java to build our webmail system; it was a pure Java system and the performance was quite good. Java technology helped us to find many commercial ways to be profitable."
Though his favorite technology is JSF, yoku.com doesn't want to use it. "We focus on the end user experience and technologies like Ajax is what makes users happy." He adds, with a smile, "It's only when the end user likes a technology that it can be called excellent."
Though born in Beijing, Stone's family originates in Nantong, a region in Jiangsu Province. Stone Shen means "Missing Nantong" in Chinese. "My father gave me this name so I'd never forget where I came from."
