Fun and Games at Tech Days Shanghai

Companies send their developers to Sun Tech Days to learn serious skills to bring back to work, but it's not all work, as the Shanghai attendees find out immediately, as T-shirts and Duke dolls fly through the air, hurled by the speakers on stage.
Today, Day 2 here in Shanghai, the Tech Days crew urged me to put away my notebook and come enjoy the Tech Days Talent Show for the Java Jacket Giveaway. It sounded silly and, yes, it was. Eight contestants braved the stage and did their thing. Two guys did a nunchuk martial arts demonstration, one woman convinced the moderator Michael Li to be her partner in ballroom dancing, a Balinese dancing routine, and a traditional Kung Fu routine.
Andrew does his Kung-Fu routine across the stage.
After dancing, Tina throws a T-shirt to the audience.
The latter two received even applause from the audience even after five re-checks, and so the Tech Days team was forced to give up two Java jackets!
Tina and Andrew accept their prizes.
I caught up with the winners after the event. Andrew, the Kung-Fu master, works in the financial services industry here in Shanghai, and said he was most interested in Java architecture and how to solve performance issues. Tina, the Balinese dancer, is here to learn a lot more about web services/SOA.
A happy winner on her way to the next session.
Congratulations Andrew and Tina!
Check out Tim Bray's great video of the talent show.
