Oracle Open World 2013 Wednesday: Hands-On Introduction to Integration and Oracle SOA Suite

This year's Oracle SOA Suite hands on lab offers three different options, dependant on your level of expertise and interest.

If you're new to SOA Suite, you should pick option 1 and learn how to build a SOA composite from the ground up, including a BPEL process, adapters, business rules and human task. The end result will be a purchase order process to be deployed through JDeveloper and tested in Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control.

If you're already experienced in SOA Suite, lab option 2 walks you through setting up the components that will allow you to utilize continuous integration with your SOA Suite 11g development projects.

For those who want to learn more about security in the context of SOA Suite, option 3 shows you how to secure WebLogic services and SOA composites using Oracle Web Services Manager (OWSM).

Hope to see you there!

Take Your Applications Mobile with SOA (Customer Panel)

Mobile enablement of enterprise systems is a fast-growing trend. Users expect to access the same applications as from their desktops and target new revenue streams. What infrastructure needs to be deployed to make that a reality? Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Service Bus are key parts of the equation. They can expose legacy systems over protocols such as REST and can handle security mediation. In addition, Oracle API Management is a new offering that drives adoption of business assets for mobile consumption. In this panel, you will learn how customers have built mobile access to their existing SOA infrastructure and the most critical requirements you need to plan for.

Come hear customers and long-time Oracle SOA experts discuss their success with mobile enablement of their enterprises. Ricoh Americas talks about how mobile enablement has kick-started their Machine to Machine strategy.

OOW 2013 speakers: maximize your selection chances

Oracle OpenWorld 2013 is approaching fast and the call for papers is now open: http://bit.ly/YbEURG (note that it will close on April 12th). Each year the event is growing larger and the paper selection process is becoming more and more competitive: many great submissions but only so many slots to fill! In the end this is for the better as this just raises the overall quality of the conference. It also means that you should pay extra attention when submitting your papers to ensure they get the attention they deserve.

Here are some tips to maximize your chances of selection:

  • We want to hear the voice of customers and end users above anything
(i.e. if you are an Oracle partner or employee, try to co-present with a customer or at least secure their approval to use their name and specifics)
  • Focus on a specific problem or project and don't try to cover it all
(vague and high-level abstracts with an endless laundry list of integrated systems tend to be eliminated first)
  • Provide specific details of the customer implementation
(attendees want to learn something that will help them, not just listen to another fluffy marketing pitch. Integrated specific apps? Make sure to mention them.)
  • Provide concrete ROI metrics or other concrete measurement of the impact of the project (productivity, business, etc.)
  • Cover either a widespread problem or an innovative one with clear business impact
(i.e. a clever rocket science project that dealt with an unusual project could make an interesting blog entry but probably not a great OOW session)
  • Touch upon one of the following topics that attract a lot of attention these days:
    • Mobile enablement
    • Fusion Applications integration
    • Cloud integration
    • Deployment of SOA in virtualized environments (OVM)
    • B2B projects, especially replacement of legacy solutions (Sterling, Gentran, etc.)
    • Fast Data for innovative marketing or customer experience solutions

Hopefully this guidance will be useful. Feel free to comment and ask for more details.

I'm looking forward to your submissions and to seeing you in San Francisco in September!

Oracle Open World 2012 SOA Presentations now available on OTN

Oracle Open World 2012 has been over for a bit more than a week now and we're catching up with post-OOW tasks while still marvelling over what I remember as the best Open World yet. We had a steady traffic at our demo pods, all hands on labs were fully booked (stay tuned for those labs), sessions were very well visited and we met innumerable customers for discussions, feedback and Q&A.

If you missed any of the sessions or want to share the information with your colleagues, you can go to the Oracle Open World website and search for the respective presentation.

To make it easier for you to find the SOA sessions, we posted all SOA presentations which were delivered or moderated by Oracle SOA Product Management on the Oracle Technology Network.

Enjoy!
