As described in Michelle Kimihira's Oracle Fusion Middleware blog post, Oracle is #1 in Modern Middleware again with "the foundational technology being Oracle SOA Suite". "Modern middleware" refers to open, standards-based application infrastructures that don’t require legacy mainframe links. Oracle is the leader in market share for the foundational components of modern middleware including (but not limited to) application servers, SOA-based integration, service governance, and identity management. While there are many definitions of "middleware" in the industry, some of which include closed mainframe-based systems, Oracle Fusion Middleware provides an open, standards-based platform with best-of-breed components that give users choices.
