Updated Resources for Upgrading to the Solaris 10 OS

The updated BigAdmin resource center has advice for system administrators and others considering an upgrade. Topics include assessment, planning, implementation, and testing of upgrades, as well as post-upgrade support. Example scenarios are given; for example, if your applications aren't available yet on the Solaris 10 OS, you can take an incremental approach to upgrading on SPARC platforms, using Solaris 8 or 9 Containers on the Solaris 10 release.

Sun Has Announced EOL of the Solaris 9 OS

Sun.com has information on the Solaris 9 Operating System End of Life transition. Life cycle events (Last Order Date, Last Ship Date, End of Retirement Phase 1, and End of Service Life) will occur at the intervals defined in the life cycle model.

With Solaris 9 Containers software, existing Solaris 9 applications can be moved to Containers on the Solaris 10 OS. Here are more resources:

Upgrading a Zone on an EFI-Labeled Disk in the Solaris 10 OS

This tech tip from a Sun engineer describes moving a zone on an Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI)-labeled disk to a slice on an SMI-labeled disk. In this way, you can upgrade the Solaris OS and then move the zone back to its original location.
