6uN-b12 is now available with New Plug-In documentations

Java SE 6 Update N b12 is now available for download! Please see the release note for a list of bug fixes.

We have included new documentations for the New Plug-In. It provides detail descriptions of the exciting features in New Plug-In. These include how to set VM parameters per applet and how to run applets in separate VMs.

Deploy Java with Deployment Toolkit, and Java Kernel. Load your applets in the New Plug-In. Observe the performance enhancements with Java QuickStarter and hardware acceleration support. Last but not least, switch your GUI apps to the new Look and Feel, Nimbus.

We want to know what you think about the new features! Please send us your comments or report any bugs you've found:

Does Sun STILL expect developers to distribute and host own JRE and developers to distribute JRE?
Looks like it.

(compare to Adobe and MS applets where the developer does not host, but only redirects to Adobe/MS site to download up2date run time. Corporate Net Admins don't allow downloads of JRE, and it's not even downloading from Sun.).

Developers will follow end users, and it seems it's easier to deploy Flex and Silverlight despite Java applets early lead. There was a lot of credibility and bad perception of Java by end users.

I wish by Java 7, that Sun has a site like Flex that if javascript detects older version, we send people to Sun site and then JavaScript comes back to the calling site so I can run my application.

Hi Vic,

This is the reason we introduced Deployment Toolkit (DT).

You do not need to host JRE. DT has functions such as detecting the user's JRE envinronment, and installing the latest JRE from java.com.

Please see link below for a complete list of functions Deployment Toolkit provides:

Is Sun currently working with Apple towards an implementation of the new deployment mechanism for Mac OSX? Thank you.
