Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.2 is out!

Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.2 has been released today, together with Oracle Solaris 11.2, Oracle’s flagship operating system! This latest version offers maximized availability and orchestrated disaster recovery for enterprise applications, leveraging Oracle Solaris 11.2's latest virtualization and software life-cycle technologies.

It delivers:

  • Extreme availability for virtualized workloads and applications

    Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.2 adds support for Oracle Solaris Kernel Zones with an updated failover zone agent which provides monitoring, automatic restart and failover as well as warm migration of kernel zones. It combines resiliency with the flexibility offered by kernel zones to have independent kernel versions and patch levels.

    Two new agents, for Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and GoldenGate have been added to the portfolio, offering application specific monitoring and recovery policies, providing increased application up-time to these Oracle solutions.

    This new release also offers support for Oracle 12.1 RAC database options such as Oracle Multitenant, service agents, policy managed database as well as new versions for a set of applications such as Oracle Business Intelligence, Siebel, ...

  • Fast and reliable disaster recovery for multi-tiered services

    The new orchestrated disaster recovery manages the automated and synchronized recovery of multiple applications and their respective replication solution across multiple sites, offering significant gains in terms of reliability, speed of recovery and reduced risk.

  • Agile deployments with Oracle Solaris lifecycle management

    The new Oracle Solaris Unified Archives format can now be used with Oracle Solaris Cluster to recover or clone easily and rapidly either physical clusters or virtual clusters. Also with the support for the new secure Automated Installer, cluster deployments can leverage Oracle Solaris end-to-end secure provisioning.

  • Simplified administration with new GUI

    The new browser based graphical user interface offers a single point access to status, configuration and management capabilities. Its topology, tree and table views offer easy navigation inside cluster instances both in local or multi-cluster configurations facilitating operations, monitoring, and diagnostics.

  • Flexible and easy integration for custom applications with the new GDSv2

    Agent (or data service) development allows you to deploy your application within the Oracle Solaris Cluster infrastructure. The Generic Data Service (GDS) has been designed and developed by Oracle Solaris Cluster engineering to reduce the complexity associated with data service development. GDS v2 further increases flexibility, ease of use and security of this already trusted and robust development tool.

  • Designed and tested together with Oracle hardware, infrastructure software and applications to deliver best time to value

    Oracle Solaris Cluster is engineered from the ground up to support the stringent requirements of a multi-tier mission critical environment. It is thoroughly tested with the Oracle servers, storage and networking component and integrated with Oracle Solaris. And last but not least it delivers the application high availability framework for Oracle Optimized Solutions and Oracle SuperCluster, Oracle's premier general purpose engineered system.

Announcing Release of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0!

We are very happy to announce the release of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0, the first release providing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities for Oracle Solaris 11. This release comes within a few of the weeks of the release of Solaris 11.


Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.0 offers the best availability for enterprise applications with instant system failure detection for fastest service recovery. It includes out-of the box support for Oracle database and applications such as Oracle WebLogic Server and is pre-tested with Oracle Sun servers, storage and networking components. It is optimized to leverage the SPARC SuperCluster redundancy and reliability features and delivers the high availability infrastructure for the Oracle Optimized Solutions.


Oracle Solaris 11 Oracle Solaris Cluster on Solaris 11 offers an unified installation experience leveraging the Oracle Solaris Image Packaging System (IPS) for all the benefits that it bring. These include error-free software updates, automatic patch dependency resolution and automated installer for easy multi-node installation.

Oracle Solaris Cluster 3.3 5/11 announced

Oracle announces Oracle Solaris Cluster 3.3 5/11, delivering unrivaled High Availability (HA) on the Oracle Solaris OS for the largest selection of enterprise applications and databases. Oracle Solaris Cluster unique HA solution for Oracle Solaris' virtual environments lowers the inherent risk of consolidated infrastructures by leveraging redundancy to protect from outages. Oracle Solaris Cluster Disaster Recovery (DR) option extends these benefits to multi-site, multi-cluster architectures to protect against planned and unplanned downtime, in physical and virtual environments.

With this latest release, Oracle Solaris Cluster further expands its support for Oracle hardware and software solution to include Oracle ASM Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS) configurations and Oracle' Sun ZFS storage appliance as NAS device.

New versions for nine different applications and databases have been qualified in Oracle Solaris Containers clusters including SAP (kernel 7.11) and Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2.

This new version also offers new DR options: Oracle Solaris ZFS storage pools replicated with storage-based solution supported in campus or geo clusters. Oracle single instance databases can be deployed with Oracle Dataguard for a fully integrated and managed option in a geo cluster configuration. It is also possible to use Oracle single instance databases in 3-site topologies, combining the benefits of metro clustering with geographic separation.

Diagnosability and ease of use have been improved with an extended cluster validation tool which allows to detect the most common installation and configuration errors and a new wizard which facilitates Oracle 11gR2 configurations in the Oracle Solaris Cluster environment.

This release also extends the support of Oracle Solaris Trusted Extensions to any validated Oracle Solaris Cluster configurations based on Oracle Solaris Containers clusters.
