Building Quality into Solaris Cluster

I'm the Quality Assurance Manager for Solaris Cluster. My team is just one part of the Quality organization built around making sure Solaris Cluster is the best product on the market. I wanted to tell you a little bit about some of the testing we do for every release.

We run both functional and load testing, manual and automated. Our test matrix covers multiple hardware configurations, several versions of Solaris, multiple filesystems, with combinations of third party products. We have over fifty automated test suites that are executed every test cycle. Those test suites contain over 1.5 million lines of test code and cover over five hundred fault points in the product gate. Over 350,000 automated tests are run per release across our test matrix, and automated tests are added for every new feature. It's a lot of numbers, but it comes down to this: my team is dedicated to making sure Solaris Cluster is the best in its field, and we work hard to make it happen.

I am proud to be part of the Solaris Cluster organization.

Comments:

Just the man, then. Could you please look into why ipfilter is not supported with Sun Cluster 3.2, as it works just great as long as the pfil autopush entry is added to /etc/iu.ap along with the clhbsndr entry? See http://groups.google.com/group/comp.unix.solaris/browse_frm/thread/4becc3b39a08c0ef/a6ec06112cce7781 for what I'm on about. We're obviously slightly wary of deploying systems with no host-based protection, and removing this restriction (which seems to be unnecessary) would really help. Thanks.

The method described in the google groups page linked above is known to SC development. We believe it works fine for failover applications and for non-load-balanced shared addresses. This is one of the many co-existence/interoperability items that we would like to test and support, given time and resources. We want to work with you on this and get some more details from you. Our goal would be to announce support for this in the near future. Thanks, John Blair QA Manager Solaris Cluster
