A proper introduction!

I thought I'd present a more formal introduction for my first real entry. Then, we are going to get into the meat of things.

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Robert Freeman. I live in Nevada and I work for Oracle in the Public Sector Engineered Systems Specialist group. Our group is at the forefront of the benefits, use and application of Engineered systems in all public sector spaces in the United States and Canada. From federal, state, provincial governments to county and city government, we provide the expertise that is needed to analyze the database needs of IT organizations and provide solutions that work both now and into the future. If you are in the PS space and need help with regards to Engineered Systems, we are the place to go.

My team is full of amazing people, each with highly tuned skill sets. Want to know about Exadata - we have experts there. Need some help with an Exalogic sale or presentation - we can help there. Exalitics... Exa* - whatever - we have the SME's that support all of the engineered systems. What we don't know, we are capable of finding out in short order.  Frankly, I'm in awe of the people I work with here at Oracle.

As for me, I’ve been working with Oracle databases for well over a quarter of a century. Man, that makes me feel old! I have done many things in my life from managing database teams, infrastructure teams, application project management, Architect, modeler, DBA, Unix system admin and C programmer. Yes, I’ve worn a lot of hats in my life. Right now, I specialize in Engineered Systems and in particular the Oracle Database. That being said, you won’t find a great deal here on the other Engineered systems like Exalogic, but once in a while I might well write something.

Also I am author of a number of Oracle Press books on various Oracle database subjects such as RMAn backup and recovery, Oracle database new features, GoldenGate and Oracle OCP certification. You can find all my books for sale on Amazon by following this link:

When I’m not working or writing I’m spending time with my family. I have a wonderful wife Carrie and six great kids! As this blog lives on, keep an eye out for more on me, and my family. My five oldest kids are 28 to 21 - and then my youngest is just a bit over two. She is making me feel young again, though I swear that the pains I have now are different than the ones I had with the other kids! I also love to fly. I'm a certified instrument rated private pilot. Next year my goal is to get my commercial rating and then start working on my instructors rating. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to teach my wife and kids to fly. I'm also a second degree black belt and certified instructor - though my knees somewhat have abandoned me and I find it difficult to do the more complex kicks these days (though, given enough ibuprofen I still can!). I can still throw a pretty good 360 degree butterfly kick. Still, I don't seem to have enough time for flying or butterfly kicks these days.

I’m getting ready to post part one of a several part series that I’m calling the Lullaby of Technology. I also have a few other ideas about things I want to post about. Also you will find me posting regularly about Oracle databases and Exadata. I welcome your comments and thoughts. Please keep them clean and keep them kind to all involved. I am very much a free speech advocate so if you leave a heated comment that makes you look like an idiot, it’s going to stay on here forever. I will remove anything that smacks as advertisement, hijacking or that might violate the TOS that you agreed too. J

So, greetings all. Let’s talk about Oracle – Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Hi Robert,

Is there anyway to subscribe to new posts via email?

I know for example that you can do this with Steven Chans Oracle blog site

Just wondered if you had plans to enable the same?

Howdy! Sorry for the delay in responding to the comment here. I will see if I can't figure out how to do an email update on here... :)
