State of Connecticut Sick Leave

Senate Bill 913 - Public Act No. 11-52 mandates that employer provide paid sick leave to service employees.

The paid sick leave law (Senate Bill 913, Public Act 11-52) became effective on January 1, 2012.  This law made Connecticut the first state in the country to mandate that employers provide paid sick leave to employees.  This law could affect you if you employ 50 or more individuals in Connecticut during any one quarter of the previous year.  The legislation requires you to provide sick days to service workers.  The covered employees can use the accrued sick days for their own illness as well as preventative medical care or for the treatment of a spouse or child or for a variety of other reasons including if the worker is a victim of family violence or sexual assault.
