The minimum amount to be reported at ‘Lump sum E’ in payment summaries will increase from $400 to $1,200 from 1 July 2015. Payees with a substantial lump sum E amount reported on their payment summary may be entitled to a tax offset. Child Support PEA Amount for 2015

The Australian Government Department of Human Services has set a minimum amount that must remain in a person’s wage after tax and child support has been deducted. This amount is termed as Protected Earnings Amount (PEA). The PEA is reviewed each year and adjusted on 1 January to allow for increases in the cost of living. For the year 2015, the PEA from 1 January is set to $349.13. This is the amount that must be set aside for your employee/contractor after tax and Child Support is deducted.

TFN Declaration Reporting

ATO has published The Tax file number (TFN) declaration reporting version 2.3.0 specification.  This impacts the electronic lodgment of TFN reporting. The changes are effective 1st of July 2015.

Federal Budget 2014 - 15 Changes

Temporary budget repair levy that was introduced during the budget session was passed by the House of Representatives during the week of May 2014. The new tax schedules that were released will be registered with the Federal Register of Legislative instruments by end of week June 6th, 2014. SuperStream data readiness and solution overview

Oracle PeopleSoft has published a Whitepaper on data readiness and solution overview for SuperStream Report. This whitepaper outlines the high level design for the targeted solution to meet SuperStream reporting obligations. The document can be found on My Oracle Support, Document ID 1668138.1.

Customers may need to consult their super funds and clearing houses as well, while there are multiple options available in meeting this reporting requirement. This includes their current solution to the Alternate File Format, creating their own file or using XBRL.

The new SuperStream and e-commerce standard which is due to go live from July this year for medium and large employers has seen a newer release of its Standard. The ATO released its version 1.2 with minimal changes in December 2013 and further was expected to release its final version by February 2014, which is still awaited. Oracle had initially published its position on this legislative feature in July 2013 and update to this is now available on My Oracle Support, Document ID 1632138.1.

Payment Summary Changes for 2013 - 2014

The Australian Government recently released changes to the Electronic Payment Summary Specifications. The changes largely focused on restructuring sentences, changing words and certain terms for better understanding and keeping the intent/information unchanged. Apart from such aesthetic changes we also observed changes that clearly specify the reason for Employment Termination Payment and these changes were delivered by Oracle in the previous financial year. Our position statement has been revised to include these updates.

Workplace Gender Equality (WGE) Act

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (an Australian Government statutory agency) has announced achieving gender equality is important for workplaces not only because it is ‘fair’ and ‘the right thing to do’, it is also vitally important to the bottom line of a business and to the productivity of Australia. Employers are required to lodge a report comprising a workplace profile in the same format as under the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (EOWW Act), with no salary data required. This Agency works with employers to help them comply with the new reporting requirements under the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.
