European Value Chain Summit 2015 - A Retrospective

On March 10th and 11th 2015, we have completed the 3rd annual Oracle European Value Chain Summit with great success! Over 520 attendees, coming from 20 different countries, found their way to the Twickenham Stadium in London, for a great 2-day program with more than 50 excellent presentations provided by Oracle’s executives, external guru’s, partners, Oracle experts and many customers! With this, it was the largest European supply chain event we have ever hosted! All direct and indirect comments we have got from customers, partners and also from our Oracle colleagues are extremely positive.

We provided a very interesting program for prospects and for current customers, also highly praised by our partners. The event featured more speakers than in the event in previous years. We started in the morning with plenary sessions, and continued a very interesting program with breakouts and product deep dive workshops for 360° Innovation, Customer Centric Value Chains, and Compliant Networks, as well as specific Industry focused sessions, covering Value Chain for Retail, Electronics & High Tech, Consumer Goods, and even a specific Product Value Chain Roundtable for Life Sciences (Pharma), as well as Solution Lab sessions.

We enjoyed great support from our customers: Without you this great event would not have been possible, thank you so much!


Oracle Value Chain Awards

Oracle awarded three Value Chain Excellence customers and partners in the three categories: 360 Degree Innovation, Compliant Networks, and Customer Centric Value Chain. Oracle Vice President Karen Clarke took pride in handing over the trophies to the winners.

DragonWave, a leading provider of high-capacity packet microwave solutions that drive next-generation IP networks, is the winner of the Oracle Value Chain 360 Degree Innovation Award 2015. A key to Dragonwave´s success is their ability to quickly integrate new companies and new technologies in their global product development and their strategic weapon to execute is Oracle’s Agile PLM platform. The core team of Yaniv Pichoto is supported in Tel Aviv by Oracle Specialized Partner Top Group.

SORIN GROUP, a global medical device company and a leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, is the winner of the Oracle Value Chain Compliant Networks Award 2015. As a leading implantable Medical Device company, Sorin has to be compliant with Unique Device Identification (UDI) regulations. Sorin Group was the first company in Europe and the second company in the world to become UDI compliant. The Oracle UDI solution, based on Agile PLM, was deployed in less than four months, with the help of Inspirage, an Oracle Platinum and Oracle Agile Specialized partner. The Award was received by Mr. Cesare Varzi, Sorin and Mr Kevin Creel, Inspirage.

Mazda Motor Corporation is the winner of the Oracle Customer Centric Value Chain Award 2015. Mazda has embarked on a strategic transformation of their supply chain to improve responsiveness and levels of service to their customers for aftermarket support. By implementing Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Warehouse Management System, Mazda were able to regain full control over their Transportation Services previously outsourced to a 3PL. This not only provided far more supply chain visibility but also saved significant overhead cost. The key implementation partner was Oracle Specialized Partner Mavenwire. The Award was received by Kris Van Vossel, Mazda Logistics Director (Europe), and Barry Hayes, Mavenwire.

Solution Labs

The Solution Labs have added great value to the Value Chain Summit Customer Experience: As a perfect add-on to the Business and Industry tracks, participants could get a detailed view on the Oracle Value Chain Solutions. We offered sessions specifically dedicated to Value Chain Planning and Execution, Moving Order Management and Procurement to the Cloud, and Product Value Chain. Special thanks to Oracle partner Inspirage with Bob Hart, Vice President Logistics Management, and Shauna Hillier, Principal Consultant, for organizing the “Is OTM Cloud right for you?” Solution Lab!

The Product Value Chain Solution Lab consisted of 2 different sessions (each repeated), around the Oracle PVC Cloud Solution stack: Solution Lab 1 was dealing with Requirements Management & Concept Design, linked to Product Development. This Solution Lab was a deep dive into the Oracle Product Value Chain Cloud offering covering Innovation Management, with a specific focus on Ideation, proposal and Investment Portfolio Management under control of an innovation project. Solution Lab 2, Ideation, Product and Project Portfolio Management, was a deep dive into the Oracle Product Value Chain Cloud offering covering Innovation Management, with a specific focus on Requirements Management and Concept Design, leading to Product Development and Product Commercialization. The whole process is governed by Project Portfolio Management.

Innovation Management helps companies to build an innovation pipeline fueled by a steady stream of high-value ideas that can be translated into profitable offerings for customers, and analyze the impact of alternate investment scenarios against business objectives such as revenue, cost, profit and resources constraints to determine the best opportunities to commercialize, and to collaborate on product requirements and translate customer ideas into concepts and products that will achieve their business goals.

Networking

Our customers and partners enjoyed the excellent networking opportunities, and held deep discussions on Value Chain Transformation strategies in the summit as well as in the Customer Advisory Board sessions, which we organized on the day after the summit.

In the evening, attendees gathered for drinks pitch side and within the players changing rooms starting the evening networking at the heart of the amazing sporting stadium at Twickenham that was the venue. This was followed by the gala dinner held at the newly built “Spirit Of Rugby” where the networking experience continued.

With all this great content from first presentation to the final keynote we felt there was a palpable energy from the delegates in all the sessions, (partner) demo areas and networking breaks. Meeting rooms were occupied all day and lots of value chain topics have been discussed. The Twitter hashtag #vcsummit15 also saw lots of action throughout the summit.

Customer Advisory Boards

The Customer Advisory Boards on March 12th, the “3rd day” of the Oracle Value Chain Summit, rounded out the overall event. Oracle Customer Advisory Boards are a gathering of a small number of customers, per area of interest, to share our product roadmaps under confidentiality agreement, discuss mid/long term evolution, ensure coverage of critical business processes, identify possible gaps between our customer´s industrial needs and our plans, and then follow-up during the coming year. The Customer Advisory Boards (CABs) were a natural extension to the summit agenda. While the summit as such was focusing on Business and Industry Themes, the CABs were the ideal place to lead very detailed product roadmap discussions in a safe and collaborative setting. The CABs were managed by our Product Strategy and Development leaders from North America and Europe.

The Customer Advisory Boards are an integral part and a key element for success of our annual Value Chain Summit. All CAB participants are looking forward to meet again next year!

Partner View

The European Value Chain Summit also enjoyed a record partner support for the event, with 20 partners sponsoring at varying levels. We have clearly grown the footprint of the Value Chain Summit, compared to the previous events in 2013 and 2014 we have added new partners to the event! Now the growing Oracle Value Chain Solutions partner ecosystem consists of a variety of partners, ranging from local to global specialized partners to big System Integrators.

The partner exhibition on the event was very well attended. The atmosphere was very energetic and inspiring, so that the partners not only met a lot of customers, but also have taken the opportunity to discuss with other partners, and find areas for cooperation.

Conclusion

All direct and indirect comments we have got from customers, partners and also from Oracle colleagues are extremely positive. The alchemy we targeted with a mix of customers, partners and Oracle presentations, with Business and Industry Tracks and Solution Labs, with networking time during the event and dinner, worked beyond expectations. Overall, with this summit again we experienced a very strong and even growing community feeling among all attendees.

We were so grateful and excited, but also overwhelmed with the number of customers who participated in the 2013 Oracle Value Chain Summit, which took place in San Francisco. We heard your feedback--the meeting rooms were too small and the venue was too crowded. So we have relocated OVCS 2014 to a new venue--the newly renovated McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. This new venue offers bigger rooms, and is much better equipped to accommodate the need for classroom space, meeting rooms and networking. The Convention Center is conveniently located, within walking distance to several hotels and restaurants in downtown San Jose, and is just 15 minutes away from San Jose's Mineta International Airport.

2. Networking, Networking, Networking

We have heard over and over from our customers that the best reason to attend events like OVCS 2014 is the opportunity to network with fellow Agile users. The best conversations often occur spontaneously during breaks between sessions, or at the end of the day, over cocktails.
