Impressions from OVCS 2014 - Agile PLM as a Platform
By Shane Goodwin on Feb 11, 2014
Many of you know my story - I bought Agile at a telecomm
company to convert a doc control system, joined Agile Software as a consultant,
implemented 12 small customers my first year, worked on larger projects with
larger customers, then moved into Product Management to make the product work
better based on what I had experienced. I have attended Agility, OpenWorld, and
now OVCS conferences since 1999, listened to hundreds of customer stories, and have interacted with so many of you. I
am proud to understand how critical Agile PLM has become to your development
release processes as a platform for collaboration around your products. OVCS is
a refreshing reinforcement of the importance of the work we do molding our
product to better align with the process innovation you need.
Thank you to our customers, partners, and sales team for
such a great conference last week. Within the overall supply chain
conference, we had a huge number of people together to talk about Product Value
Chain and Product Lifecycle management. I sincerely hope you were able to feel the
energy and excitement around Oracle Agile PLM. Sometimes we all go into a
conference like this with our own agendas and ideas about what we want to hear.
I hope you were able to keep your mind free of the noise of day to day work and
hear something profound. I hope you can incorporate that insight into your vision of product
development and product innovation at your company. I hope you were able to
connect with other customers and collaborate on ideas that will make your
companies better. I know I am pondering the sessions and our interactions this week.
One of the biggest benefits from this conference should be to reduce the fear that you are the first and to see what could be possible. With the quality of our customers, you should be able to find someone who has implemented what you are thinking about. In addition, our Agile PLM platform enables you to experiment quickly to reduce risk and quell the fears about failure. You can see this everyday with our customers, partners, and pre-sales team. Find a way to have an experimentation system inside your organization to try new processes and prove them quickly.
At this year's conference we announced the launch of a
new product, Innovation Management. IM will assist customers build a set
of well defined product ideas into products through a series of processes that
develop requirements, design concepts, project proposals, and product
portfolios. This connectivity from the front end of product ideas into a
concrete product definition enables development organizations to have
confidence that they are building the right product at the right time to launch
into the right markets. This type of process reengineering on the front end of
product development will yield dramatic benefits to your organization. I am excited I will be able to use the product this year for my own product development.
At OVCS 2014, we had customers, partners, and our pre-sales team discuss a myriad of advanced PLM topics. We want our attendees to hear these stories and use cases to foster a conversation within your organization about PLM. Wednesday's PLM keynote about how Agile PLM has grown into a platform for product processes and data was amazing. The core of Agile PLM, controlling product data and exposing this consistent data into the enterprise, has lead to a platform that enables your company to innovate better. The journey to get full value from PLM requires vision, planning, and execution. I was extremely pleased to hear from so many customers about how our PLM platform enables that journey.
We are already planning for next year's conference. We have heard some great feedback around offering a broader mix of content, from PLM 101 type topics up to the master's class advanced process topics. Please let us know through the linked in groups or directly what will make this conference better for you next year. I certainly look forward to next year where we can continue to celebrate your amazing PLM journies.
