We have just completed our 2nd European Value Chain Summit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The event was a great success with an outstanding atmosphere, excellent content, and high value. Almost 400 people from 25 countries enjoyed the excellent networking opportunities provided in the event.
Starting on March 18th, 10:30, Maha Muzumdar, Vice President Oracle Marketing Supply Chain, set the stage with a warm welcome and introduction to the day. Then Jon Chorley (CSO & Group Vice President, SCM & PLM Product Strategy) explained the Oracle Value Chain Management strategy, followed by Joseph Francis, Executive Director of the Supply Chain Council, who highlighted current trends in Supply Chain Transformation.
The Supply Chain Council (SCC) is a global nonprofit organization whose framework, improvement methodology, training, certification and benchmarking tools help member organizations make dramatic, rapid, and sustainable improvements in supply chain performance. The last plenary keynote of the morning of this first event day was held by HP Chief Technologist Christian Verstraete. Christian highlighted the importance of “Technology in Support of the Value Chain”.
After the lunch break we split into 3 tracks highlighting Value Chain Planning, Value Chain Execution and Enterprise PLM for the Product Value Chain. John Kelley, Vice President, Product Value Chain Strategy, Oracle, kicked off the Enterprise PLM breakout track with his presentation “Product Value Chain: Empowering the Modern Value Chain”. The session provided a comprehensive overview of Oracle’s product strategy and roadmap for the Product Value Chain Management products – and at the same time was the official launch of Oracle Innovation Management in Europe!
Innovation has become a top priority for many CEOs, but less than 20% believe their investments are paying off. With Oracle Innovation Management they get a comprehensive view to make faster and better investment decisions through the capture, enrichment and evaluation of ideas, product proposals, requirements and concepts. Each idea can be analyzed and compared to determine strategic fit and financial impact before they waste time and money developing the impractical ones. With Innovation Management determining which ideas carry the most profit potential becomes a sustainable, repeatable process that delivers results. IM will assist customers build a set of well defined product ideas into products through a series of processes that develop requirements, design concepts, project proposals, and product portfolios. The participants of the Hands On workshop in the conference were really impressed by the great capabilities of this new and game-changing solution.
Later in the afternoon, Fritz Konz, Manager of McDonald's European Quality Center, explained how Oracle Agile PLM Helps McDonald’s to “Enable Innovation Value Management and Nutrition Transparency”.
At Oracle, we “drink our own champagne”, or in other words: We use our own software to excel in hardware and software development. This was impressively explained by Devendra Singh, Vice President, Agile PLM Development in his presentation "Using Agile PLM for Hardware and Software Development within Oracle Sun and Peoplesoft".
The Enterprise PLM Breakout sessions then proceeded with two customer sessions by Marel Stork Poultry Processing B.V. "The OnePLM Program at Marel: Supporting Company Business Transformation Goals" and by Philip Morris International "Streamlined Processes in the Consumer Goods industry - From Idea to Manufacturing".
In the evening hours, there was plenty of room for networking and fun: We enjoyed a nice boat trip through beautiful Amsterdam.
On March 19th, Maha Muzumdar kicked off the day by introducing the first session of the day, hosted by PWC, with Don Jennings, IT Director, Silicon Graphics International “Building a Consolidated PLM Platform for Compliance and Supplier Excellence”, followed by presentations hosted by our partners Mavenwire, Inspirage, and Cognizant and delivered by Logitech, Ferring, and a panel discussion.
After the coffee break, we split up in several tracks again. The Enterprise PLM track started with a block of three 2x45 minutes presentations. In the PLM in Industrial Manufacturing track, the PLM in HighTech, Life Sciences, Consumer Product Goods & Retail track, and PLM in Food & Beverage track, Oracle Product strategy and product development shared “Product News and Roadmap” for the respective product lines, each of them together with a customer example. In these sessions we heard excellent presentations from great customers such as Marquardt, Bayer Consumer Care, and KP Snacks.
After the lunch break, the Enterprise PLM track continued with a
Retail Industry Track, comprising of an introductory session delivered
by PWC, and a presentation on effective “MultiChannel Commerce with Product
Information Management”. In parallel to the Retail track, the audience enjoyed a PLM in Midsize
track, consisting of customer presentations by Global Display
Solutions, Sealed Air, and Elemaster. This track was hosted by our partner xPLM Solution.
