Webcast Q&A : Building a Secure Cloud with Identity Management
By B Shashikumar on Jan 25, 2012
Thanks to everyone who attended our webcast on "Building a Secure Cloud with Identity Management". We also like to thank Brian Baird from SaskTel for participating on this webcast and presenting a very interesting case study. If you missed the webcast, you can watch a replay of the webcast here. Here is an embedded compilation of the slides that were used on the webcast.
We have captured the Q&A from the webcast for informational purposes here.
1.. Q: What if you already own the Oracle IAM stack? How can you move to this cloud model?
A: The SaskTel cloud services model is portable. The SaskTel architectural model makes it simple to consume Identity Management as a service from the SaskTel cloud. In fact, customers with Sun Identity Manager or CA SiteMinder deployments have successfully migrated to SaskTel's cloud model. Similarly, SaskTel also makes it simple to bring cloud services back in house.
2. Q: You have OAuth support. Do you have a REST interface as well? If so, can you speak to that?
A: The Oracle Identity Management stack is built on open standards. Our products are designed to work with cloud, mobile and the social ecosystems. Oracle Enterprise Gateway (OEG) can secure cloud and SOA infrastructures on-premise or in the cloud by mediating traffic in different data formats such as SOAP, REST, XML, and others. OEG can also manage connections to the enterprise, partners, and 3rd party cloud services.
3. Q: Does SaskTel Identity Management Center of Excellence provide value added services such as approvals, entitlement based provisioning and provisioning to on-premise applications
A: The SaskTel Identity Management Center of Excellence is designed to make it easy to consume critical capabilities offered by the Oracle Identity Management stack such as workflows, self service provisioning etc.
5. Q: How long does Oracle plan to sell and support the Identity Management suite? Is there a roadmap that we can take a look at?
A: Oracle is fully committed to supporting its Identity and Access Management Suite. For the latest roadmap, contact your Oracle Sales Representative at 1-800-633-0738
Q: What type of resource adapters/connectors are supported by SaskTel offering?
A: Since SaskTel is built on Oracle Identity Management, it can support most connectors supported by Oracle Identity Management. Oracle Identity Manager comes with a set of standards based connectors that makes it simple to integrate different business apps rapidly. Since Oracle Identity Manager supports SPML, the interaction between third party apps and the connectors can be established through SPML.
