How Mobile & Social Increase the Value of HR Technology

A key finding from CedarCrestone’s 2013 – 2014 HR Systems Survey was that improving the user experience is an important way to improve user adoption. It makes sense really. If a system provides an easy, modern, and engaging user experience, chances are more people will use it. Contrary, if a system provides a frustrating, complex and outdated user experience, people will simply avoid using it.

The same survey also found that organizations that are achieving higher levels of employee user adoption are also achieving stronger value from their HR applications for both employees and the organization. Again, makes sense. If you implement an application that turns out to be heavily used, it’s fair to assume a significant amount of value has been generated. The same can be said of the opposite. If you implement an application that few people use, it’s tough to realize much value.

So if user experience is a key factor in achieving stronger employee and organizational value, how can organizations ensure they are providing a positive one?

Consumer Expectations in the Workplace

Shifts in consumer experience have led to shifts in workplace expectations. Outside work, people are constantly immersed in consumer experiences designed to be simple, personalized and engaging. When at work, they don’t forget how they were treated as consumers. Employees now expect a modern experience, mirroring the one they get as empowered consumers. They want to be treated as individuals, yet able to seamlessly interact and collaborate with their peers. Office applications now need to be fast, simple and socially enabled while being available anytime, anywhere, on multiple devices. Expectations are now that completing work transactions or collaborating with colleagues should be as easy as buying a book on Amazon or posting messages to Facebook.

    • Review performance, goals and career path
