I've learned there is no one right way organizations approach their talent management. There are certainly best or tried and true practices, but even those standards are rapidly evolving. Talent Management change influencers certainly include technology such as the rapid proliferation of mobile devices we all carry around. It's also driven by the population and demographic evolution. And I find that it's also highly driven by HR innovators within the organization.
