Disaster Recovery with Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate

The best part about preparing for the upcoming OTN Virtual Technology Summit is reading up on the technology we'll be presenting. Today's reading: Disaster recovery with Oracle Data Guard... it's an essential capability that every Oracle DBA should master.

How do you achieve the highest levels of availability resulting in zero or near-zero downtime for both planned maintenance activities or unplanned outages?  Most Oracle DBAs use the combination of Oracle Active Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate. Active Data Guard gives your implementation comprehensive data protection and very fast failover for database failures, cluster failures and data corruptions. Oracle Active Data Guard also provides auto block repair for physical block corruptions.  Oracle GoldenGate provides active replication where updates can occur on all replicas with zero downtime maintenance for migrations, database and application upgrades.  That makes Oracle Active Data Guard and Oracle Golden Gate essential components of the Platinum MAA tier.

A new paper entitled Transparent Zero Data-Loss Role Transition with Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate  was just published a few weeks ago and details the configuration best practices to enable an Oracle GoldenGate database to work after any zero data loss Data Guard role transition.

You can find more best practices based on Oracle High Availability technologies, expert recommendations and customer experiences on the OTN Maximum Availability Architecture Page.

And be sure to attend the Mastering Oracle Data Guard session presented by Oracle Ace Ed Whalen in the Database Track during the OTN Virtual Technology Summit (July 9, 9:00 am PT).  You'll be glad you did.  Register Today!

Ciao for now~
