Oracle Technology Through the Oracle Cloud

By Diana Reichardt

Thomas KurianThomas Kurian, Oracle executive vice president, Product Development, opened the Tuesday morning keynote at Oracle OpenWorld, saying that “our mission is very simple⎯it is to bring Oracle’s leading enterprise technology, database, middleware, and business applications to any customer, any user, any partner, anywhere in the world though a browser.”

Kurian explained how the Oracle Cloud includes platform services, application services, and social services, all built on top of a common set of infrastructure services. That underlying infrastructure includes storage and compute services built using Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud engineered systems, secure identity administration, and a set of services that developers can use to build applications such as in-memory cache, queues, and messaging.
  • Oracle Cloud Platform Services currently include database services and Java services and will include mobile services, collaboration services, analytics services, and Web services. With Oracle Database Cloud Service and Oracle Java Cloud Service, customers get access to the industry-leading database and Java EE application server in the cloud. The services are now available globally.
  • Oracle Cloud Application Services include enterprise resource planning (ERP) services, human capital management (HCM) services, talent management services, sales and marketing services, and customer experience services. In addition, the application services are now integrated with Oracle Cloud Social Services, allowing organizations to transform their corporate business processes and systems using social capabilities.
  • Oracle Cloud Social Services include social network services, social data and intelligence services, and social marketing and engagement services.
In addition, Kurian announced seven new Oracle Cloud preview services to augment Oracle’s comprehensive portfolio of platform services, application services, and social services, all available on a subscription basis:
  • Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service
  • Oracle Financial Reporting Cloud Service
  • Oracle Data and Insight Cloud Service
  • Oracle Social Sites Cloud Service
  • Oracle Developer Cloud Service
  • Oracle Storage Cloud Service
  • Oracle Messaging Cloud Service
