MySQL Backup for Recovery, Auditing, Data Transfer

Backing up your MySQL databases is important for:

  • Complete system recovery: If a system fails, you need a backup of the system so you can restore it. Your backup and recovery strategy depends on how current and how complete the recovered data needs to be.
  • Auditing capabilities: For some systems and associated processes, you need to audit or analyze the data on a system other than your primary production environment.
  • Typical DBA tasks: Use backups when you need to perform typical DBA tasks such as transferring data from one system to another, creating a development server based on a specific state of a production server or recovering certain portions of the system to state prior to a user error.

Take the MySQL for Database Administrators course to learn more about types of backup, backup tools, and MySQL Enterprise Backup. You can take this 5-day, instructor-led course in the following formats:

Cost-Effective And Efficient Scaling of MySQL Cluster

MySQL Cluster data nodes can run on commodity hardware and have very few requirements. This means that you can

  • Create large-scale clusters on relatively inexpensive computers
  • Easily, extend a running cluster by adding data nodes while the cluster is operational

In a simple cluster, you can add a new data node by copying a single binary to the new host and executing it with an option that refers to the cluster's management node. Then redistribute data among the new node groups with a single command and the cluster automatically distributes data to all of the data nodes.

To learn more about MySQL Cluster, take the MySQL Cluster training course. You can take this instructor-led course as a:

MySQL Cluster Automatic Sharding for High Availability and Scalability

MySQL Cluster automatically shards data across data nodes on separate hosts which means that your database performance scales naturally as you add more nodes. Data nodes belong to node groups that replicate data so that if one data node fails, another data node carries on working with a copy of the failed node's data. This ensures high availability and scalability.

To learn more about this topic and many other key topics for understanding and using MySQL Cluster, take the MySQL Cluster training course.

Areas to Tune When Improving MySQL Database Performance

When looking to improve the performance of a MySQL Database, remember that the database is not the only factor that affects performance. Applications or the infrastructure that support them can cause significant bottlenecks which are independent of the database. Therefore, start by taking a big picture view of performance and as well as tuning the MySQL server instance, consider application tuning or operating system tuning.

To learn more about this and other key performance tuning topics, take the MySQL Performance Tuning training course. You can take this 4-day course through the following formats:

MySQL for Database Administrators Training Available in Eight Languages

The MySQL for Database Administrators training course is one of the most popular courses at Oracle. This is not surprising since it provides a comprehensive range of administration skills to those using the world's most popular open source database.

You can travel to an education center to take this 5-day instructor-led course, and as shown in the table below, events are currently scheduled for delivery in 8 languages (Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, Turkish).

If you want to take this training from your own desk, you have two options:

  • Training-on-Demand: Start training within 24 hours of registration, following training at your own pace.
  • Live-Virtual Event: Follow a live event from your own desk, choosing from a selection of events on the schedule to suit different timezones.
