Deals and More Deals

Reuters deals pages are still the best and quickest source of news on deals and corporate strategy.

For example, consider the page that summarizes global deals in terms of total number and value of deals among pairs of countries. (I agree that a complete summary graphic representation would also be good to add to the ones that capture deal totals for each country.)

Masood,
Back on May 30th, I had posted the below message. However, you did not reply. Since your recent post here dealt with 'Business', I thought I might asked again your thoughts on W. Edwards Deming.

Masood,

Reading this (and your previous mention of Michael Porter) made me wonder if you have read much of W. Edwards Deming? Before I retired our college was striving for 'Quality' and I found Deming 'very' interesting and useful.

Hi Ralph!

Yes, I've heard of Deming and have seen references to him in Peter Senge's books and writings as well as elsewhere.

I do need to pick up Deming but haven't had a chance to do so yet.

Do you have a favorite book or essay by Deming that you may want to recommend, as a place to start?

Thanks again.

Good morning Masood,

I first read of Deming in David Halberstam's book: 'The Reckoning' - pp. 311-318. I felt someone this interesting (Deming) must be worth learning about. As a person, Cecelia S Kilian (his secretary) wrote the most interesting -- 'The World of W. Edwards Deming' (2nd ed). Mary Walton and Andrea Gabor both wrote interesting books on his 'System.' The books by Deming are much harder to read -- more academic. He did have a Ph.D. in physics from Yale. Studied under Teller I believe.
Thanks for responding.
