The Pain of Working From Home
By Kimberley on Nov 21, 2004
According to the BBC, 8,000,000 people are working from home.   Today, I am one of them.   In a BBC news article entitled, " Luxury of home working 'a myth'", Guy Robarts strikes home about the pain of working from home!
Guy's article leads with, "Dreaming of escaping the shackles of your office and working from home?   Think again.   Most people who turn this fantasy into reality find themselves having to endure conditions as cramped and uncomfortable as in a Victorian sweatshop." and then continues to talk about office space at home...   or lack of it...   and presents ideas about how to improve it.
Our own home just happens to be a Victorian!   It's a lovely 100 year old home with 2 good sized bedrooms and a "box room".   For those outside of the UK, the box room is a bedroom which is not really big enough for much more than a bunch of boxes.
The box room is our office at home.   An overloaded bookcase lines one wall, the workstation sits on a bland, drawer-less table, and my back is against the window.   There are 2 of those PC things (which my husband uses for Flight Simulator and the like) and an Epson printer all sitting on the floor.   Cables are everywhere.   When I sit here, I so miss my spacious cubicle at work!
