Sun Second Life: New MySQL Campus space coming soon.

Future MySQL Campus

I was given a tour of the new Sun Second Life employee home area and it is going to be pretty cool.  I loved the design of the auditorium and the layout.  I think this new employee home is going to be a lot more functional.  Special thanks to Enzo for the great sign.  I highly recommend visiting the new home location and taking a tour. Some highlights include:

  • Entry area with RSS feeds, informational signage on events and workshops, mentor board, etc.
  • Cool meeting areas and gathering spaces
  • New private conference rooms for meetings
  • Small theater seating up to 80 avatars
  • Employee sandbox
  • MySQL sandbox (future home of MySQL Campus)
  • Library space for digital learning content such as eBooks, newspapers (WSJ) and more

I am also excited to announce that we are going to be working on a MySQL campus space in the home employee island.   Areas we plan on having in this MySQL campus space includes:

  • MySQL certification
  • MySQL best practices
  • MySQL in the Sun Software Stack
  • MySQL strategic directions

When we launch the site we are going to have a number of MySQL presentations along with LAMP and Sun Software Stack presentations.  Areas of focus will include:

  • Scaling and Performance Tuning
  • MySQL Optimal Configuration Architecture (MOCA)
  • Best Practices
  • PHP
  • Glassfish
  • Identify Management
  • Storage
  • Apache
  • Memcache
  • DRBD and Heartbeat

If you are interested in getting involved in the build of the MySQL campus in second life let me know.
