OBI already has a caching mechanism in presentation layer and BI server layer. How is the new in-memory caching better for performance?

Question:

OBI already has a caching mechanism in presentation layer and BI server layer. How is the new in-memory caching better for performance?

Answer:

OBI Caching only speeds up what has been seen before. An In-memory data structure generated by the summary advisor is optimized to provide maximum value by accounting for the expected broad usage and drilldowns. It is possible to adapt the in-memory data to seasonality by running the summary advisor on specific workloads. Moreover, the in-memory data is created in an analytic database providing maximum performance for the large amount of memory available.

Exalytics:Is RTD going to be on the Exalytics box in the future ?

Q: Exalytics:Is RTD going to be on the Exalytics box in the future ?

A:RTD is not currently planned to be certified for Exalytics.  The Exalytics architecture is not ideal for RTD (RTD requires more processors than memory), and there are no existing or planned optimizations to run RTD on Exalytics.

Is customer allowed to change IP address of Exalytics box by himself?

Question:

Is customer allowed to change IP address of Exalytics box by himself?

Answer:

Changing the IP address or host name of an Exalytics machine is not officially supported, or recommended.Weblogic, EM has dependency on the IP address and may not function properly after the IP address is changed. You may have to reinstall the entire apps after you have changed the IP address.

Weblogic, and the OBIEE install do have some dependency on the networking configuration but typically that is the hostname, rather than the IP. So, this means that it should be possible to change the IP address of the host, but NOT the hostname. However, if the network was not setup properly and in Enterprise Manger you see references to IP addresses rather than the hostname then there may be a problem such as that described above

In order to change the IP address, we would recommend that the procedure is carried out by someone familiar with network configuration, they could either use the exalytics network config script or directly edit the various network config files appropriate to the network port that the IP is being changed on.

Exalytics:Is Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11.1.1.7 certified with Exalytics PS2 (1.0.0.2), or any other Exalytics release?

Question:

Is Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11.1.1.7 certified with Exalytics PS2 (1.0.0.2), or any other Exalytics release?

Answer:

OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0 is a full product release and is not currently certified with Exalytics.  It includes many product enhancements and the installation/upgrade procedures are significantly different from the install method for a minor patchset, such as OBIEE 11.1.1.6.5.

The Oracle Exalytics Development team is actively working on certifying OBIEE 11.1.1.7.  An announcement will be made when the certification process is complete.  Certification details are available in the Exalytics Certification matrix posted here.
