How to identify the version on Exalytics T5-8

How to identify the Exalytics T5-8 version?

Answer:

Login to the node and run:

# prtdiag -v | grep -i firmware

For Example,

# prtdiag -v | grep -i firmware
Sun System Firmware 9.1.0.b 2013/08/13 09:59

To verify the system firmware from the Oracle ILOM, then login to the Oracle ILOM and run:

-> show /System/Firmware/

For Example,

-> show /System/Firmware/
/System/Firmware
Targets:
Other_Firmware
Properties:
system_fw_version = Sun System Firmware 9.1.0.b 2013/08/13 09:59
Commands:
cd
show

For more details regarding how to check version on Exalytics T 5-8, refer Tab->Exalytics  v1.0.0.4 ->Column 'How to check versions on X2/3-4' and Column 'How to check version on T5-8' of Exalytics certification matrix available at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi/oracle-exalytics-ps4-2147225.xls

Can we use TimesTen DB in Flash drive without loading into RAM in Exalytics ?

Question) Can we use TimesTen DB in Flash drive without loading into RAM in Exalytics ?

Answer) No. TimesTen is a pure in-memory database.It has to be loaded in RAM to be used. Disk/flash storage is used purely for persistence and recoverability.Hence it is not possible to access data that is not loaded into memory.

OBIEE:Difference between High Availability and Scale Out

What is the difference between High Availability and Scale out?

Ans:

High Availability :High availability refers to the ability of users to access a system without loss of service. Deploying a high availability system minimizes the time when the system is down, or unavailable and maximizes the time when it is running, or available.

Scalaing: Scaling is the process of increasing or decreasing the capacity of the system by changing the number of processes available to service requests from Oracle Business Intelligence clients. Scaling out a system provides additional capacity, while scaling in a system reduces capacity. Scaling is also a critical part of configuring a deployment for high availability.Scaling the Oracle Business Intelligence environment applies principally to resource-intensive system processes and Java components. When you deploy more processes, Oracle Business Intelligence can handle more requests while staying responsive to requests.Vertical scaling involves adding more Oracle Business Intelligence components to the same computer, to make increased use of the hardware resources on that computer. For example, Oracle Business Intelligence can be vertically scaled by increasing the number of system components servicing requests on a given computer and results in increased use of the hardware resources on a given computer.Horizontal scaling involves adding more computers to the environment. For example, Oracle Business Intelligence is horizontally scaled by distributing the processing of requests across multiple computers.

Setting Up and Running Summary Advisor on an Exalytics Machine (Oracle-by-Example)

If you are running Oracle BI on an Exalytics machine, you can use Summary Advisor to identify the aggregates that will increase query performance. Summary Advisor intelligently recommends an optimal list of aggregate tables based on query patterns that will achieve maximum query performance gain while meeting specific resource constraints. Summary Advisor then generates an aggregate creation script that can be run to create the recommended aggregate tables. Aggregate tables reduce query times by storing precomputed results for queries that include rolled-up data. This tutorial covers steps to set up, configure, and run Summary Advisor on an Exalytics machine using TimesTen database as a target for storing aggregates.

You can find the Oracle By Example (OBE) in the Oracle Learning Library (OLL). The content in OLL is available to all customers, partners, and employees.
