Here's just a selection of some of the new success stories about EMEA-based customers that can be found at http://www.oracle.com/customer. This month the stories revolve mainly around Cloud Computing and Engineered Systems, but I've also included a story from a much-overlooked area - Enterprise Systems Management, which is little regarded but, as you can read below, can have a huge benefit to customers' operations.
Nationwide Building Society (Nationwide) is the world's largest building society as well as one of the largest saving-account -service providers in the UK and a top-three provider of mortgages in the UK. Its product website has around 4.5 million monthly visitors and 1.9 million active internet bankers.
With Oracle Talent Management Cloud, Nationwide will gain a better understanding of where its talented people are and who wants to progress to ensure it can maximize the opportunities it offers employees. Managers will be able to access different views of performance and talent across the organization, and move people around to enable closer collaboration on projects. In addition, integration between Oracle Talent Management Cloud and Nationwide’s PeopleSoft core platform will deliver more analytical reporting to inform executive decision-making.#
In another financial services story, Standard Life Group, the savings and investment company, headquartered in Edinburgh, wanted to compete better by getting the very best from its people. So the company set out to modernize the way it recruited, developed and retained its global team of about 8,500 employees.
Standard Life’s HR initiative included a key investment in Oracle Human Capital Management solutions, enabling the company to build efficient workforce management processes worldwide, reduce costs, and align employees with its strategic business priorities. The company also introduced an Oracle cloud-based talent management solution that provides a next-generation technology platform for recruiting, developing, and rewarding the right people across every region.
Standard Life’s investment in Oracle HR solutions is on track to achieve an estimated 32% ROI over five years, delivering annual savings of £5.2M per annum. Today, Standard Life’s HR organization is contributing to the strategic transformation of the company by building an empowered workforce aligned to the needs and goals of the business.
Here's a Database-as-a-Service story for you. Based In the UK, Mestec provides a factory-performance-optimization tool that helps manufacturing companies to perform better. Running on Oracle Database, Mestec integrates with its customers’ enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, including Oracle E-Business Suite. Mestec monitors people and processes second by second and delivers detailed, real-time information about things such as labor utilization, labor effectiveness, reject levels to drive efficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs.As more customers began to look for software-as-a-service offerings, Mestec decided to deliver its performance tool as a managed service, running on Oracle Database and hosted by Oracle partner Interoute. So now with a cloud-based service running on Oracle Database, Mestec can quickly and easily implement and support new customers at minimal cost. Customers benefit from the resilience, reliability and stability offered by Oracle Database coupled with the flexibility of a cloud-based service. By offering a wholly reliable hosted application, available through a monthly subscription, Mestec reduced its average sales cycle by 90%, from up to a year to as little as four weeks. As a result, Mestec has grown its customer base threefold.
Atos IT Solutions and Services GmbH provides information technology (IT) solutions and services. It operates one of Europe’s major data centers, managing the IT infrastructure for more than 100 Austrian companies in industries, including manufacturing, retail, financial services, telecommunications, and utilities. Atos:
- Increased batch processing with 10x more input/output operations per second by replacing the IBM AIX platform with Oracle SuperCluster, a unified and high-performance engineered system that integrates virtualization, computing, storage, networking, and systems management, enabling Atos to optimize service levels
- Reduced the cost of software licensing purchased by Atos by 50%, lowering customer expenses and driving a projected 1.5x growth in platform profitability
- Reduced monthly spending on power, cooling, and space by 75%, replacing standalone servers with Oracle SuperCluster at a ratio of 4:1 to run customer databases, middleware, and applications
Globacom Limited, one of the fastest growing mobile communications companies in the world, operates under the brand GLO in West Africa. It is a leading provider of mobile telephony in Nigeria and also operates in Benin, Ghana, and Ivory Coast. Globacom deployed Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 Starter Rack to capture, store, organize, and analyze more than 1 billion call-data records per day, equivalent to 5 gigabytes of user-traffic information per second. Reduced average query response time for network events from three minutes to five seconds. Improved first call resolution by equipping call-center staff, saving 35,000 call minutes per day, equivalent to more than 80 customer service representatives working full time.
Afibel, a subsidiary of the Damartex group, is a mail-order company specializing in mature fashion, primarily for women. It distributes 38 million catalogues every year in France under the Afibel and Delaby brands. Based on its presence in France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, the company has 6 million customers. Abifel freed the IT department from needing to address infrastructure problems, thanks to Oracle Database Appliance, so it could concentrate on developing applications that add value to the business, including applications to support web services for loan applications and deliveries to pick-up points, according to customer demand. As a result it gained 8% market share in one year in the United Kingdom by developing an online loan service for customers, thanks to Oracle Database Appliance’s capacity.
With more than 140 million cell phone customers, 31 million landlines, and 17 million broadband connections across 50 countries, Deutsche Telekom AG is a world leader in integrated communications. Deutsche Telekom deployed Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine to create a high-performance, high-availability analytics platform and ensure timely insight into over 3,000 KPIs for more than 300 financial controllers and managers
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Distribution (ADNOC Distribution) is a United Arab Emirates (UAE) government-owned company that specializes in marketing and distributing petroleum products within the country. Its 24/7 sales systems support more than 10 core business applications and over 50 business-related IT services. By running its main sales, smart card, and retail C-Store sales systems on Oracle Exadata, the company realized significant increases in internal performance and saved several thousand processing hours, annually.
As a result, ADNOC Distribution’s main sales system experienced an average 15-fold performance increase, drastically reducing the time needed for sales-cycle closing, customer-sales reporting, and sales analysis. The company saves 1,596 processing hours per year in its sales system, alone.
Enterprise Systems Management
And now here's that Systems management story, under the headline
With a network of more than 700 agencies and branch offices nationwide, Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA), the German federal employment agency, is the leading provider of labor-market services in Germany. With more than 100,000 employees, BA is the largest German government agency and one of the largest employers in the country. Its most important tasks include job and training placement, career counseling, and providing income replacement benefits—such as unemployment compensation and insolvency payments.The combination of Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c provided BA with the availability, scalability, and performance to meet critical requirements, such as on-time job placements and compensation provisioning—while significantly reducing IT administration costs.
BA can now manage thousands of Oracle WebLogic Server instances—expected to grow to more than 10,000 instances in the near future—across the test, stage, and production environments within its data centers. Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c also improves the availability, performance, and service levels of deployed applications through proactive monitoring of the applications as well as their underlying infrastructure.
