Specify which editor tool will be opened for a particular file type.

This question comes regularly in the forums and in Support.
How to change the editor tool for a particular file type ?
F.ex. you would like to open the JSP files with the 'Source' tab as default, instead of the 'Design' tab.
It's very easy to do it ... when you know how to do it.

You have to select menu Tools -> Preferences....
There select "File Types" on the left Panel.
On the right panel, click tab "Default Editors"

Select a File Type and change its default editor.
In the following example, I specify I would like to open the JSP files in the Source editor:
DefaultEditor:

Comments:

What if I want to change all file types to default editor source, is it possible ? I found it quite frustrating to changing default editor for different file types one by one, mostly when the machine is running slow, it better to open all the file types in source editor.

No, you have to specify the 'File Type' first (and repeat the operation if you want to do it for all File Types).
But the first step may be to try to convince your manager to order you a new machine ;-)
More seriously, you should engage Oracle Support if you think the time taken to display a page is abnormally long.
We could at least compare with a "normal" machine (compared to your machine "running slow").
I'm aware it can be the case for JSP or faces-config files, depending on their complexity.
Do you have trouble with other File Types ?

Thank you for the tip. Since I first used JDev, I have wanted to open my jspx pages in source mode, just because I do not really have any use for the design view (except while I am building a "template"). I find it much more easier and quicker to work with the structure, component and data control palettes.
