It's odd to me
that since the guardian launched its ivebeenthere wiki, I've preceded
them to two european cities and they've published just after I've been. I spent
some time in Amsterdam between Xmas & New Year. Am I their "cool hunter"?
The Guardian launched its Amsterdam
section over the weekend. While I was there I spent some time doing those touristy things, Museums, Canals and the Botanical Gardens. While
Amsterdam is very pretty city, the weather was dreadful and it snowed while we
were there. This had the advantage of covering the Vondelpark in a dusting of
snow which made the park and the walks to the restaurants very pretty.
Amsterdam is very pretty city, (I don't think my pictures do it justice), its a
veritable "Venice of the North". I was so surprised at the number of
canals and its cosmopolitan atmosphere that makes it worth visiting. It also seems completely bi-lingual, making sense of what I was told about assuming that dutch telephone operators can be assumed to speak english without arrogance.
Having over the last six months visited both Berlin and Amsterdam, my
thoughts returned to idea of visiting London as a tourist, this has been
reinforced by "Management Today" covering London in its "frequent
flyers" article in December. More pictures
