New features in Globus 4.2.0


The Globus Toolkit is a powerful open source software toolkit used for building Grid systems and high performance computing environment. It is being developed by the Globus Alliance and many others all over the world. Many projects which aim to realize the high performance computing in distributed environment use the Globus Toolkit to build their grid infrastructure.




The latest Globus 4.2.0 has been released recently. Globus 4.2.0 contains an upgrade to the web services specifications used by the toolkit as well as new features in grid services. I have just deployed Globus 4.0.6 in our test environment Ubuntu 7.0.4. In the next step, we are gonna try Globus in the Solaris 2008.5. Details on the Globus 4.2.0 upgrade are available as follows:




  • Persistent HTTP connection support in Java WS Core



  • Dynamic deployment support in Java WS Core



  • An implementation of WS-ServiceGroup added to C WS Core



  • Added support for the OGSA-AuthZ Authorization Service to CAS



  • Server-side attribute-based authorization framework enhancements



  • Enhanced security descriptor framework



  • A Web service interface for the Replica Location Service (RLS)



  • Improved support for multiple TriggerRules in the Trigger Service



  • Java API to assist in creating resource properties from external information sources



  • A new resource manager (RM) adapter API in GRAM4



Java WS Core of Globus could be deployed in most of the operating system including the Solaris and Windows. Detailed instruction of this latest could be found in release notes. Anyone who want to take a glace at the high performance computing are encouraged to use this 4.2.0 release.
