The Donnycarney Youth Project strives to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for young people (aged 10 - 12 years) and adults in the community by promoting positive life choices. They aim to respond to local needs in relation to young people and to those affected by drug use. Donnycarney is situated on the north side of Dublin on the Malahide Road and Collins Avenue junction. On average about 120 service users attend the project on a weekly basis.

In December, Tech GB organised a Christmas party for the younger children. Tech GB donated a substantial amount of money which paid for the party which included a disco, snack box, presents and party games for the children to enjoy, musical chairs and limbo were some of the exciting activities. 3 representatives from Tech GB, Ramona, Lucinda & Brigid helped the youth workers with both pre-party organisation and the running of the event, they ensured that all had an excellent Christmas party.

Flora Women’s Mini Marathon

Overview of Event

The Flora Women’s Mini Marathon is the biggest all women’s event of its kind in the world. It has grown steadily in numbers since it began in 1983 with its popularity increasing significantly over the last few years. Over those years some 600,000 women have entered the event.

Charities are the big winners. In 2007 it is estimated in excess of €10m was raised by the participants bringing the total since the race started in 1983 close to €100m. All charities benefit. The women decide themselves who they will support and many local causes gain vital revenue from the event.

It is now the biggest single day charity event in Ireland. The event has no equals in its appeal. Women of all ages representing every county and every walk of life take part in this great Festival of Women. No pressure is put on anyone - all the participants have to do is get fit enough to walk, jog or run the 10k. It is up to each individual to set her own target. Every finisher is a winner - and receives a commemorative medal and ribbon to mark the achievement.

Tech GB Contribution

The Tech GB was represented by Margo Mulvihill and Lucinda Smith. In an effort to drum up support they set up a website called wemustbemad.com, an apt name seeing as this was their feeling from the beginning. This website name was catchy and memorable. The charities supported were The Children’s Hospital Dublin and Cancer Research UK. These charities were selected as two close to people’s heart and covering both countries Ireland and the UK. Oracle Partners, work colleagues and friends all supported the girls and so can be see in the results, i.e over €2000 was raised for the 2 charities.

Welcome to our CSL Blog

This blog was created to show the work we as a team at Oracle are doing. As part of an initiative for Corporate Social Leadership we took as a first project the Flora Women’s Marathon. This helped us raise over €2000 for charity, to support sponsorship we created www.wemustbemad.com. Since then we decided to create a blog to follow the initiatives we as a team are involved in.
